>I see no reason to accept Meyer, regardless of the quality of his films since he knew nothing of Star Trek.

>He created Starfleet ot be more militaristic than GR wanted. It moved away from the source material in a dramatic way.

>Now, his films are good, but that doesn't diminish his changes, often for no reason.

Fireproof, come now, you can't really compare Nick Meyers Star Trek to Abrams' Trek, one was good intelligent sci fi, the other was a sci fi joke..Nick Meyer wasn't a trek fan but he also didn't slap us in the face with unlimited silliness, he knew how the characters related to each other and yes while his Starfleet was militaristic it fit his story concept, you can't expect to take down a tyrant like Kahn without a good military, Meyer knew how to make Star Trek work, watch "The Wrath Of Kahn" then "Into Darkness", you'll see what I mean.

I disagree. Both are good scifi, but in different ways. But, I maintain that you cannot reject Abrams for not being a Trek fan if you will not reject Meyers. Its the same concept, just two different eras in terms of Trek.

Also, even GR said Khan was 1D in TWOK.

I think the OP hits the nail on the head in regards to TWOK vs. TOS and GR's vision.

He'sDeadJim6400 is right. Abrams has completely reconstructed Trek from the ground up, arbitrarily, with little to no understanding or respect for what came before except in the most superficial way. He's created a new timeline, rewritten the classic TOS characters, changed fundamentals of how Starfleet operates, the locations and look of planets and alien species on sheer whim. Meyers for the most part maintained Star Trek as it existed. So no comparison. The changes are so drastic and so out of step with what came before that what Abrams is putting out is no longer recognizable as Star Trek to many fans.

Great review, well done!

I don't know why it's the most popular when it's the first one Roddenberry wasn't fully supportive of.  Sigh.  It's not my favourite, I found it was too dark.  Had fun with Voyage Home, not sure it's the "best."  Each is good in its owns way.  I think my very favourite is the 2009, with new young cast and promise of future adventure.

Hopefully you didn't miss my point though. I was not really trying to "bash" Wrath of Khan!

while it seems that your post was meant to make fun of people who didn't like the movie, I agree with your points about it

It wasn't made to poke fun at anyone.  It was made to illustrate that stid is being held to a different standard than other trek.

I wasn't making fun of anyone. Every point I made about Wrath of Khan was legitimate! I'm just trying to illlustrate that if you hold other movies up to the same standards we sometimes harshly judge the new ones by...we'd end up hating those movies too! It's just kind of a fun and roundabout way of telling people to chill out about the whole thing. Life is too short.

That's really it.

I don't think people are holding it up to a different standard. (with the excepion of special effects) I think people are looking for reasons that people didn't like the new movie, like saying that you think they're holding it to a different standard that's why they didn't like it, or they're judging too harshly and that's why they didn't like it

but go back and read my post, I was AGREEING with your points

I don't mind if people "don't like" the new movies...but what's the real reason?

What's the real reason you "don't like" whichever is your least favorite Trek movie? Or Voyager and Enterprise?

I mean, what makes a movie (or any form of entertainment) "good" or "great?" Where do you draw the line between "stupid" and "clever?" Is it a straight line or does it curve? Can you enjoy a "sh!tty" movie? Can you hate a "great" movie?

Thank you. Seriously.

I feel bad for STID because it was a good movie, and yet it's getting bashed for things that every other Trek movie did. It's really quite sad.
