Why would he do this when he knows the formulas and different modes of time travel? Would the spock that risked court martial and death penalty to help his former captain Pike by taking him to Talos iV really accept the destruction of his homeworld and do nothing but allow the timeline to continue? Guinan realized in a TNG episode that their timelimne wasn't the way it was suppose to be. Captain Picard decided to sent Enterprise c back on nothing more than her word.. I don't think spock woud accept this new reality (timeline) and just go with it....I'm not bashing the movie, however.  I enjoied it just the same, and will see anything Star trek, just making conversation...

This has bothered me since the 2009 movie and continues to do so.  I personally feel that “our” Spock would not rest until he had restored the timeline. He would not sit idily by and watch millions upon millions die due to interference from the future. He would correct his mistakes, he would try to fix what was broken. And he would be able to save both Vulcan and Romulus. Or he would die trying.

We know Guinan visted Earth in the 19th century so she was aware of humanity and its develoment.  I wonder if she sensed the change in the federation's timeline and thought, There are suppose to be more Vulcans, and these aren't the ones I know.  lol

I suppose if he felt that that it was partly his actions that caused the destruction of Vulcan, that could be a motivating factor in him wanting to assist.

Does he have a way back?

Why would he risk further incursion and or disruption of time lines?
If he attempted to travel forward, would it not bring him forward to the newly created time line only?
Would he be able to jump back into his time line from an alternate past?
He would need to know or figure out which alternate time line to jump to.
He might end up in the Mirror Time line, or a timeline where the borg have taken over the entire galaxy.

Better to stay put where you are and help the remaining Vulcan's of this new timeline rebuild their culture...he would be the perfect logical; choice.

the sirtuations are dsifferent in that the change in Picards era had just accured [althou with time events thats not always certin]

In Spocks case the first change in history took place 22 years before he arrived

thats 22 years of new lives, new history, new deaths......all before Nero changed things even more by destroying Vulcan.

Spock is an old man that has ample reason to no longer trust his formulas and calculations [remember his grave mis-calcumation regarding the Hobis star], he wouldnt risk trying to fix the timeline when theres a good chance things might get worse.

I also doubt he would think his timeline deserves to exsist over the new one.

What we're dealing with here is not an altered timeline but a many worlds alternate reality parallel universe. When the Prime characters visited the Mirror Universe like in DS9, they didn't try to change the characters or world because it was different from their version. However different it was from their reality, it was correct for that parallel universe, the logical development of the altered paths that led the characters to become who they became.

If you are saying that this is an alternate reality from the get go, I can buy that.  It makes more sense, than anything else, and we can rest assured that the timeline in the original series is alive and well.  Heck that's how I came to justify 'Enterprise', as an altrnate reality, after that I enjoied the series and accepted it for what it was.  However, I just watched the 2009 movie again, and I saw nothing that suggested that not only did Spock travel bak in time but also crossed over into a mirror universe.   Whatever the case though,  there is still a change in a timeline.  This timeline  was first changed when Nero arrived in the past 20 years before Spock. and Kirk's father was killed in the battle.  Spock prime's memories were of a different timeline.

Whats been said to have happened was that a new parrallel universe was CREATED when Nero travelled back in time, true it doesnt exactly"fit" with everything we have been told about changing history in Trek, but it does fit with modern science theories on time travel/history changesw, not to mention it helps to fix all the paradoxs we have been left from other Trek stories.

I curious as to why you needed for Enterprise to be a AU to enjoy it, theres really only 1 break in continuity that isint easy to explain.

and yes, Spock prime's memories would be of his original timeline.

So are you saying that a new au branched off from the original when Nero arrived inn the past, leaving the original in tact?  I should rephrase what I said about  'Enterprise'.  I like it like I like all star trek. I just meant that that's how I dealt with the few continuity problems.  It's been a while, but off hand I can only think of two.  The episode where they encounter the Romulans, and the other is the episode with the Ferengi. i can't remeber the details.  I'll watch and try to go in detail later.

thats the idea

the Romulan episode presents a continuity nissue in the form nof romulan sahips with cloaking capabilitiesw.

the Ferengi episose presents no continuity nisswue because they never told Archer who they were., in other words, no name "Ferengi" never was used.

2 problems with that.

1]Spock would swtill need to do some calculations, and I doubt he has that much trust in his numbers anymore

2] it would mean he has to play God and decided which timneline desrves to continue

Or correct the timeline that was distrupted.  I think Spock suddenly shirking his duties and being "too old" to do calculations is a cop out.  TOS Kirk would have not allowed the disruption to continue.

We arent taqlking about Kirk.

and I'm not saying hes too old to do calculations, what I'mm saying is he might be too old to take on such a mission.

I'm also saying that he has reason to doubt his caculations because of how he failed with the Hobis star.

and again, its doubtful he would be willing to play god and decide which timeline had a greater right to continue.
