Okay, but lines like that can, and arguably should, be involved in any basic Trek plot.  Your implied they had to significantly sacrifice dramatic points in order to work those in which you don't.  Pretty much any standard hero sacrifice story can have them.

The  writing was lazy. That is the whole point of the discussion. When they said "don't you want to create your own iconic moments?"

There were two points to your reply.  That's why you used the word "and."  You also clearly said that using those made the movie's moments "forced."  That was what I was responding to.

You're switching to a primary focus on the first point now that you don't feel the ground beneath you is as firmly as you used to for the second point.

How am I switching focus?    What the hell are you talking about? "and"?

You know my thoughts? Awesome.  Are you a Betazoid or Miss Cleo?

I see no need to debate or support arguments that were so nrilliantly and concisely stated in the video itself. Their main focus was the plot and the writing.  The End.

I was focusing on what you wrote, not your thoughts.

If people responding to what you wrote pisses you off then choose not to write.

You make no sense whatsoever.

And....

You're switching to a primary focus on the first point now that you don't feel the ground beneath you is as firmly as you used to for the second point.

That implies you believe you know my thought process.  Hence my comment.  Has nothing to do with being pissed, Miss Cleo.

I was deducing what you were doing.  It doesn't mean I'm mind reading.  I'm probably right too.

I make sense.  I think you just struggle to follow other people's writing, and are only vaguely aware of your own.

It's not very hard.  Just look at the last line you wrote.  You aren't responding to content.  You're imagining a crowd of school yard friends listening to you.  It's like we're both back in high school.

Sorry, I have to get my flash cards to understand what you're writing.  BRB!

And now you know what I'm imagining?  Wow, you're special!

Sarcasm is my native language.
JJ Abrams is not of the body.

To summarize my argument, the inclusion of odes to previous Trek's do not necessitate "lazy" writing.

Lazy writing attacks as a whole are harder to prove or disprove, but while this movie did not have the depth of Star Trek VI, it DID have more weight than the previous three Trek films.  There weren’t any overpowering plot problems that forced a viewer to choke on them.  There was no microwave incident ala Batman Begins.

>I think these guys got hung up on the bells and whistles rather than the plot.

The majority of the discussion was the terrible writing and how the entire movie seemed to be written around forcing iconic scenes.  That is "the plot"

The majority of the discussion indicated they didn't understand the plot. Some of their conclusions are just wrong.

Their conclusions being "wrong" or not is a matter of opinion.  I agree with every one of their opinions, so they are "right" in my opinion.

And you stated "I think these guys got hung up on the bells and whistles rather than the plot." to which I pointed out they focused thoroughly on the plot.

But there interpretation of the plot is wrong.

It's obviously too complex for some.
