The poster is not the only sexist marketing. The overall marketing of Black Widow was sexist. Sad, given Whedon's portrayal of her in the movie.

Trip may have just come out of deconn, but he spent about 1/4 of an episode wandering the ship in his boxer-briefs. I believe that might fall under the definition of "gratuitous."

I believe, in ID, that Eve was going to get changed and they wanted to show Kirk as a womanizer, a trend following from Trek 09. Abrams admits the scene was edited and shot wrong and Lindelof apologizes. I'm surprised they did that much.

I am not arguing that we shouldn't be better, and that there is more that people can do. I'm just saying, that compared to several other movies, recent movies, that a single scene of Eve in her underwear. Also, it is also apart of Trek's past and again, doesn't surprise me, doesn't offend me as much some incidents in Trek's past.

It's not the fact that it's a single scene. It's the fact that it was in every.single.trailer. And every set of studio photos that were released.  I'm surprised they didn't make an action figure out of it.

They took that one scene and plastered it everywhere.   To me, I don't find it offensive in a feminist way, but more as an insult  to my intelligence and eye roll inducing.  When I saw the first trailers, I was like "really?", especially since every ST09 trailer had the scene with Uhura in her bra.  My  thought was "What, is this a thing now?"  I didn't even know Carol Marcus was Carol Marcus. I called her Underwear Girl for a while. Someone should do a mock cosplay of her, just standing there in that stupid pose with one arm out.

It's just childish and silly marketing.

Some valid points are being made here. People can't just act like apologists towards present day short comings just because it's been successfully perpetrated in the past. That's like saying it's okay for any mistakes to be made now, 20-40 years later, just because "it's happened before"

There are a great many things that were acceptable 20-50 years ago that should not be acceptable today.

Racism, whitewashing, sexism, polyester.  All things we should be ashamed of  being practices today.

I'm not defending the scene so much as I find it less offensive than other marketing aspects out there.

As much as I would like to believe that 50 years of human history means that some practices have evolved out of humanity, it simply isn't so. So, I am not shocked or offended that humanity continues on with some more offensive attitudes-50 years is but a blink of an eye in terms of history.

Racism is perpetuated by many institutions, unfortunately, including the US government.

Whitewashing-thankfully, Into Darkness only has the more recent example but I have no doubt that it will continue.

Polyester-um, hoping that's a joke but in case it's not-polyester is more common in clothing than ever before

I'm glad that people are becoming more aware and recognizing the issues, and that Lindelof apologized for the Eve scene. But, you can't tell me that its worse than things like Fast 6's marketing, or the swimsuit edition or the insistence of women wearing as revealing of clothing as possible at my everyday job

On scene in a movie is not enough-its the broader societal acceptance of revealing clothing that frustrates me.

I don't see what the big deal is.  It fits with Kirk's character and could lead to "David" or whatever they choose to name him/her if Kirk and Carol do the deed in this timeline.

TV, movies and advertisements are full of scantilly clad women.  Every ST series/movie has had them.

Get over it.

No problem with the "underwear" scene at all.

She wanted Kirk to peak.

All criticism of this is just plain wanking for the purpose of wanking.
