you keep harping on the number of posts I have made.  I'm wonder what was worth 6688 posts worth of your time. How many posts have you made on a singular topic? If you're wondering why I'm actively posting on this, it's because it's a new topic. There's only so many times over a the past  few decades that I can particpate in "Who's the best Klingon" post.  For the most part, Star Trek forums are repetitive.

But I don't and should not have to justify myself or my number of posts to you. As long as I'm polite, then you can either choose to participate or not, but don't play line ref. on something as asinine as post count.

i just think this is unfair to question becuase times were different then when star trek aired in 1966 compared to now and also now there is more technological advances. i think that jjabrams star trek movies make the future gene rodenberry invisioned more possible to grasp as a possible future as a better for everyone

Roddenberry himself even said that someday someone will take Star Trek and reinvent it to make it more relevant to a current time and events.

Abrams Trek is barely 4 years old and still working on establishing itself. Personally, I love the fact that while Abrams has a different style, it has brought more people in to greater awareness of Star Trek, and looking at the other episodes and movies too.

To me, Abrams Trek opened more people to Trek and I think that is a positive thing.

Also, to the OP, did all of Trek do these things you are asking or are you just refering to TOS?

Because I'm not sure DS9 or Enterprise have inspired people either.

DS9 inspired me.

...not to become an actual scientist, because although always generally good at science and maths, I hate(d) maths and was always more inclined towards the humanities...

But it did rekindle what was a moderately lapsed interest in the sciences. And got me reading for fun again when I discovered Star Trek books. My writing (and film/tv/reading interest) has also turned more towards the sci-fi genre since then.

I know of people whose interest science, engineering, military and/or medical career has been positively influenced by watching DS9. Not as sure about Enterprise, but I'm sure that by extrapolation...

The other difference I'll say is that in the cinema when I went to see the latest Abrams flick, I didn't see any kids. Star Trek original series was very much a family show; these films not so much. But you never do know.

Have you ever danced with a Tribble in the pale moonlight?

Good list. And I think the answers are mostly no.

But I think some of the others here have a point. If you were to limit star trek only to the movies, your list would similarly apply, since the movies mostly lack the wonder and optimism of even the dreariest series.

So I think you should keep your hopes up. They'll probably produce a new series soon enough. We'll be able to say more definitively then whether the current team is doing right by star trek.
