Should THE NEXT GENERATION have explored a possible
romance between Jean Luc and Beverly - at least in the
movies, as was done with Riker & Troi?

Or was it much more appropriate, the approach that
the show took? Was there even any hype, there?

One reason it didn't happen was because TNG often had it where events on one episode weren't really related to any other episode. TNG did that worse than the other Star Trek shows except for TOS of course. There were obviously exceptions though.

Part of me wishes they would have gotten it over with and hooked up, but another part of me is glad they didn't.

That they did marry and divorce in the AGT alternate future sort of disappointed me when that episode first aired, but as I've gotten older it makes more sense to me. Picard is too much of an independent loner to be the kind of partner Beverly needs.

Eline might have put up with his distance, but Beverly wouldn't in the long run.

Crusher and Picard has no chemistry from day one. Everything they did was forced and artificial.  I never bought into their so-called "attraction" then or now.  1- The actors just didn't have the chemistry. It happens.  2-It was creepy. Crusher's flirting with Picard as early as the Naked Now creeped me out. The last time she'd seen him was when he'd brought her husband's body home. This was his dead best friend's wife.  You just don't DO that.  Ugh!

I view the passion of Bev & Johnny not as a scene
to have been acted out, but as a fire to be lighted ...

Isnt she too old for that? Shouldn't she be wearing black sackcloth and not getting married because her rose is out of bloom?

Perhaps she's revirginized.

That photo(shop) is wonderful and disturbing at the same time.

Hmm ... It may be more befitting of a mature couple
to have a reserved, casual wedding, instead of all the
pomp and extravagence of a formal ceremony.

They could have it at home, perhaps? Along with the
reception. In the kitchen, Bev & Johnny could schlep
out the entrées and hors d'oeuvres for their guests:

"Thanks for coming, Wil. Hold out your plate, for me
... what'll you have?"

I think they made a great pair and I loved watching episodes that focused on Bev & Johnny. However, I think the subtle hints of attraction towards eachother was enough for fans to enjoy, because it left us waiting to see what would happen next between them. So, part of me did want to see their relationship explored in the films but the other part of me thinks that the show gave us enough Bev & Johnny.

They could never hook up now, I don't think either would be able to remove the feeling that they're betraying Jack in some way even if it's technically not true. That combined with there incompatible personalities would destroy their relationship. Bev and Johnny would only work and by work I mean stay together in some parallel universe where,  where she never married Jack Crusher and maybe Jean-Luc is a little less jaded by years of solitute and the stresses of his command duties. Otherwise it would crash and burn. ):

Bev and Picard has a will they won't they kind of relationship. The naked now showed they were attracted to each other and almost did it in his ready room and all through the seasons (Except Season 2) there was episodes where it seemed to expolore a possible relationship sharing breakfast etc and I think Season 7 they admitted there attraction when tere minds were linked. Unfortunatly TNG finished before the could explore the relationship further although in the alt future they did get married. Though not officially canon in the books after TNG they eventually get together and get married so who knows what will happen for them
