>Again, I certainly feel that it would have been stated by Kirk. Intel would certainly have that information if they had enough intel for them to go and do something so bold as to steal a MAJOR piece of technology like a cloaking device.
if you want bto drop this fine, but Kirk and surly some of the others did have that information.

heres the relevent info from the script

SCOTT: Lieutenant, when did the order come through?
UHURA: Order?
SCOTT: From Starfleet. The order to enter the Neutral Zone.
UHURA: There's been no order I know of, Mister Scott.
SCOTT: Surely the Captain couldn't be doing this on his own authority.
KIRK: If you two have complaints, you can bring them out into the open.
(A ship appears on the viewscreen.)
SCOTT: That's a Klingon ship! But it couldn't be, not in this area.
SPOCK: Intelligence reports Romulans now using Klingon design.

Scotty was the only one that seemed shocked by the klingon ship, Sulu, Checkov no one else seemed reemotly suprised.Spock knew about it and certinly Kirk did. Rememer he was there, under orders from starfleet intelligence to steel a cloaking devise, surly he read the full report.

So why would Scotty be the only one surprised? He certainly outranked everyone there at that point except Kirk and Spock.

So, I would think Kirk would be the one who got the orders. Uhura even said she had no idea of any order. I guess I attached the "Romulans now using Klingon configuration" to Chekov, which must be wrong becasue you said that Spock said it.

Anyway...can we please drop this? Do you want me to publicly say that you are correct and that at THAT PARTICULAR time, when this TOS episode aired in 1969 the producers and Gene and the writers all had it in their heads that the Klingons and Romulans had a treaty and were loaning out ships and technology to each other? Because I won't do that.

You seem to be an intelligent fellow, with good writing skills and a vast knowledge of Star Trek history over 40 years. Can I please just say that in my opinion there was no alliance at that time? Please? Are you one of these guys that has to get in the last word? Maybe you are right. What do you want me to say? I am already off and running in other threads on these boards, and wish to just let this go.

Fine, you're right. Obviously the highly honorable and proud Klingon race did not think they were a match for Starfleet/Federation and joined up with Rommies. I suppose you could say it was their way around the Organian peace treaty or something, I dunno.

Please, please, stop fighting me on this. It makes me not want to interact with you in other threads, which I would really like to do. You win, I lose, OK?

hes not a bridge officer, maybe the report only came in that day.

Kirk was trhe one that got the orders. He was ordered to act crazy as well

Yes it was Spock.

Actully the episode in question was from season 3......I believe Geene had left the show by then.

What I feel, from what I know of the issue, is that they used the klingon ship for budget reasons, and that they wrote in the line the Intelligence reports to suggest a possible instory reason...either that they were friends, or that the romulans stole the sdpecs fo r the ships.
as to the rest, please dont feel that way, I just take great joy in these types of conversations, its just fun for me durring my 5 hour treatments.
