I Thought it was such of an interesting Idea, and always felt tractor beam go against physics that say can only push not pull, and if magnetic than ship just make opposite and it push away and also would have magnetized ships and attracted meteor storms.

That grappling hook was a fantastic bridge between NASA and the modern TOS era. I liked to see the Enterprise crew have to struggle a bit in space, which they did on Star Trek ENTERPRISE.
