I'm pretty sure you've only read the last sentences of my post. Hence you missed the context. Can't blame you for that... I'm not a good writer like you.

Anyway I'm done here, glad to have uncovered such a gem like you online. Back to being a backward, traditionalist, idiot and resume with my life.

Because unlike you I know my weaknesses. Jerk.

Please think before you accuse someone online again.

I can't even talk to you anymore. You're just trying to fight, not trying to talk.

And no I have no choice as to who your sisters marry. You don't have either, it's their choice.

Go ahead, make someone else unhappy today, since you're so good at it.

I bet it makes you feel good about yourself.

ok, cooled down a little.

"why not see yourself as a human being not just the member of one race?"

Dude. That was my entire point. We actually agree with each other!

So why even fight?

Do you just want to paint yourself in a good light and shoot down any opinion that comes along, even if people are actually agreeing with you?

I admit I'm not much different. I have failed to use a less patronizing tone. But I also admit I'm kind of angry because of your wrongful accusations. And I'm kind of stupid.

Racism is not something that can be attacked. Don't "ATTACK" anything. Warmonger.

Understand that it's part of the human cognitive process, and derive positive aspects from it.

It depends on our level of maturity. Some of us are ready to only accept membership of a small race. Some feel that they are part of something bigger.

Some feel the need to see everything as being racist.

I hope you find peace, eventually.

All the best to you and your sisters. Derf out.

Some interesting points being expressed here. I would disagree with the point that racism doesn't exist. It very clearly does -- and in every direction. And I don't believe that it doesn't influence media. If you've ever seen Breakfast at Tiffany's, I doubt you could disagree that Mickey Rooney's character was an atrocious stereotype! By the same token, however, there is a point at which it, like other "isms" perhaps, becomes a kind fo ink-blot test, and where detecting its presence (yes, sometimes mistakenly) says more about the viewer/reader than about the writer, medium, or story. Certainly I could come up with some pertinent examples of this phenomenon too.

Have you ever danced with a Tribble in the pale moonlight?

@wissa

I indeed had been beating up myself really badly over a troll. Thank you, your post meant a lot to me.

@OtakuJo

I can't agree more. The same phenomenon exists for many other "isms" (such as feminism)... and to properly discuss them will require a state-of-mind that the thread starter is recommended to try to achieve.

Personally, I respect writers even more now, for they have to put up with irritation with readers who "miss the point" and are too distruptively vocal about it in the community. Racism is an influence in media and directly affects everybody's lives, to various extents. It "plagues" even the thread-starter.

The thread-starter was displaying a full extent of harmful, unconstructive racism when they (singular) antagonized me based on my race alone. I'm certainly not from China and I'm not a traditionalist Chinese. Contrary to popular opinion, the US of A and China are not the only countries in the world. Also, you can be racist against your own race. It just happens.

To the Thread Starter: We're living in a generation where new problems are constantly being discovered and faced. There are a lot more things to be paranoid about and everyone is dealing with a different kind of challenge everyday, across the globe. It is highly recommended that you take a chill pill.

For starters, try not to think about tanks, killing or protests anymore. The new world has no room for those things.

Live long and prosper.

I agree that racism does still exist. It is not, however, in the majority of people. I'm sorry to anyone who has been affected by it. But you do have to understand where to stop. You can pretty much twist anything into a race conversation, just like you did here.

Here's a situation for you to think about: Picking people based on their race would be racist, wouldn't it? What about wanting the minority in your production/government/school. Many colleges such as Stanford are proud to say that they have a large population of minorities. Same in government; people get elected because they're a minority, whether it's race or gender. That's great, but picking minorities and discriminating agaist whites is racist, right? We must stop this cruel racism! Discrimination!

Now think about that. Would you be just as willing to defend whites? Probably not. I feel like people are trying to make up for racism by giving certain races benefits. If it were whites getting elected for being white, it would be exactly the same, but not frowned upon. But why not? Is it racist that people are trying not to be racist so much that they are being racist... agaist themselves?

It's not racist that there 1/2 of starfleet isn't Asian, it's just that they got American actors, most of which are not Asian. I know that if I was making a show, it wouldn't even occur me to pick out certain people because of their race. Where I live, the majority of people are white, and therefore, the majority of people will be white. Not because I am racist, just because I wouldn't think to make more of one race than another- I'd pick closer to what I'm accustomed to. If I lived in Asia, I would pick mostly Asians, and if I lived in Africa, I'd pick more africans.

It would be so nice if people just dropped the whole issue. How about equality, everyone?

DUKAT!!!! I think the kind of racism you talk about the southern farmer dragging someone out or someone crying bigotry, this happen in Asia; but we also see how passive racism in suburban areas have devistating effects by the time it reach asia, a small decision made by a co., say bring co. overseas to save money, soon end up with they pay 10-yen on the $ (yen about 1-cent) for natural resources, and juz bribe local officials look other way, hire good looking small villiage girls who not know better to work for them, then have affairs with them and get them pregnant and since marry already no take care of girl or child, then also make immense rich divide between rich and poor; and then situation so delecate n' unstable, any minor decision that not treat people in that country as equal to those in one's own, almost certainly cost many lives; that such person never do to USA or LOndon people.

Think they not want to know, now that live in USA know there great resistance to even talk about.

Buk Lau If i correct in thinking I ask question and all of you argue that question no valid, so you that insult me by say I stupid to ask question in first place; and question not stupid but legit, and not one of you even once acknolowge that question valid.

Buk Lau And telling someone else that they racist is not racist; racist could be many things like if I know what race you are (which I don't) would be requiired for me to be racist against you. Reverse racism doesn't exist, it is an excuse to not be "called on" being racist.  If you presume you could not possibly be racist, then you wrong, because racism exist within every person in world, and if believe you never were racist mean never try expel racism of your culture, so ethnocentric in feeling you're culture better than other because yours is no racist but others racist, while also never excell any racsim cus' believe never had any; and since all cultures about equally racist that make such person much more racist.

If American in Asia and say "Hey that racist" Chinese say "how so" and want to try to expel, because we realize that racism exists in everyone, because all of South East Asia use to be China, so when we now see they all hate each other, we must see that they also in us, and we try to say they all dif races same as you did 100 years ago in Europe, but just like in Europe during world wars, where they know not long before all goverened by dif members of same royal family, so all related; and just like how 20 years ago you see Arabs as same race as you, and now that you at war with them you see them as dif race as you; we know this not entirely so, so must accept racism in everyone.

With regard to my seeing in you, you have to realize that all racism is is unquestioned cultural assumptions and further form culture easier to see; my 6-19 at shaolin style monastery, go to buddist temple since 3 or 4, and go to national schooling as well, grow up in China, both living in city bigger than any in U.S. except NYC and often go to small towns and villiages that still completely 3rd world stage of developement, travel with family to major pacific island countries and track down relatives in one where we have them, and visit one sister in london teen school (since graduate from USA masters program and nationalized citizen of USA) and other who now still in German undergraguate degree in Germany; and now Immigrent in USA wth Green Card, studying to become citizen like sister...

So unless that also describe you, is illogical assume that I not see unquestioned assumptions in u that you not see in u; but u not even consider that as possible

@Lang-haoLeeyoh: I can't deny it is indeed a valid question and a rather interesting one. However, our answers are not good enough for you. Good luck with finding the answer you want.

Hope one day every country in the world will make shows with the correct racial makeup you are asking for, if that should appease you.

Once again I would like to say that nobody is here to insult you on the web. We all love you, so thanks for calling me a murderer.

@Lang-haoLeeyoh: The problem with calling people who do not perceive racism "racists" is that you are imposing your negative experiences over people who are still learning to deal with other things in their life.

I understand that activists have the drive to spread awareness and everything but you have been doing it (in this thread) in a very violent and non-exclusive way. You're antagonizing the very people you are trying to spread awareness to. Note that I am addressing you in terms of what you have done and not what I think you are.

You're probably the nicest, sweetest person I would have ever met on the other side of the internet. But I don't see your sweetness, because your words have been violent to me.

On the other hand, you're accusing me of highly evil thoughts just because I exercised a little creativity on the word "racism", provoking you to think further. (And your replies showed that you did not think further, you rejected my opinions and called me a murderer)

Now how does that make sense? It's even funnier to see you try to rationalize what you have done to me. You're not really helping your own credibility, you know.

Racism is the effect of humans acting upon pre conceived notions of someone or something foreign to them. Our brains organize past experiences and form schema so that we can react quickly to the unknown. I see you as a Chinese, as a Star Trek fan, as an internet user. I feel things.

However, I controlled my behavior so that I could allow myself to perceive you more deeply as a human, an individual. Before my complete perception, I will need information I have perceived of racial and hobby groups to fill in the picture.

What have you done? You have antagonized me almost instantly. That's what a racist does. You may not be a racist, but you still act with a large amount of prejudice. That makes you no different from a racist.

If you love you no say troll or use sarcasm, heard once 3 type people 1 very honest to fault like one who cannot help but tell boss they wrong, one compuslive (but wrong word no remember right word) liar who lies even when they know it hurt them cus' never trust anyone with truth; and another who honest and dishonest according to own standards that probably never be known to anyone, so now I know which 1/3 you def not belong to.

Re. all countries- U & I both know China think it most supperior country in world and make no apologies for saying Chinese best people in world, so I no expect them to ever have 4.5% being Americans and only 1% of Americans millionairs and 20% of Americans poor; BUT USA say political correctness = no racism and they claim they politically correct, but on most politically correct show they say they ever create, one should ask- if so then why this & can be assumed to be way of point out they lie when they say they no racism

@Lang-haoLeeyoh TL,DR; You say 当局者迷,旁观者清 (Chinese for "The observer has a clearer view") I say "Hey that's racist" and also 人之初性本善 ("Every person is born to be kind")

What makes you a 旁观者 (observer) to me when you all the data you had about me was in these posts?

@Lang-haoLeeyoh I was not being sarcastic. There is a possibility that you are a nice person, it is just that I don't see it here. I never say you are those kind of people I want to fight, like you did to me.

Ok so we're onto governments now. As an activist, is your wish to change the government? If so, you're in luck. There are many people who are already trying.

There are still two kind of approaches: embrace others with openness or condemn people to death if they every so slightly disagree with you.

I don't want to assume which kind you are, but if you are the type that condemns others, then you are no different from the government you are trying to change.
