Starfleet Command Orion Pirates Crashes on win 8

I just got this game after hard work of finding it, and was wondering if anyone knows of any fix for the random crashes? I would very much appreciate any help. This is very frustrating!!! It always appears to happen when I start a battle it could be right away, or it crahses randomly after playing it for like 20 minutes. I hope somebody could help. Thanks!
