Spock and the Future

So Spock is stranded in the new alternate timeline and he/we kind of assume that this branching stream of time and space would not exist had it not been for Nero and himself being cast backwards in time and disturbing the river. So what should Spock do next? Can he reasonably be expected to try and stay hands off with the future since this one only exists because of him? He has a vast amount of knowledge pertaining to future events that would still happen anyway. Should he report these things along with their solutions and/or workatounds?

For example, the Doomsday Machine will still be out there. If he doesn't report where and when they encountered it the original people involved might not be involved or chance might cause them to fail since they've all been drastically altered by his presence. Untold numbers of additional victims may be killed before it is stopped. If he does report it and how to destroy it he might save people who would have pointlessly died before. The same idea could apply to other events and objects such as the whale probe, the Borg, etc.

Should Spock guide the future through these hazards or leave people to flounder and die? If he did decide not to act how would he rationalize his decision to withhold assistance from millions or billions of people?

That's a good question. On one hand, this new universe is a separate universe and the Prime Directive would seem to apply. On the other hand, it branched directly off the original one specifically because of his (and Nero's) actions.

I think he would feel responsible enough for it to help history follow a similar path that it did in the original timeline. So he's disclose enough info to keep things running, but not enough to really mess up the TPD.

I think the prime directive applies and he should stick to spreading his seed in order to repopulate the new vulcan.

actually, I'd like to see some novels about the rebuilding of the vulcan race and would be interested to see if anyone else foresees issues with Spock's halfbreedness

Since this specific universe exists mainly because of Spock and Nero should the Prime Directive evenapply? He's already caused major disruptions in the lives and activities of people who are supposed to stop or fix things that may kill billions if he now chooses to do nothing. The Prime Directive is rule, an idea. Does there come a point where Spock has to say "what does the death toll have to be before living beings become more important than robotic obedience to a concept"?

It's already been established that the death toll doestn' factor in to  the prime directive.  Or at least it's supposed to.  And what difference does it make if you personally are responsible for this time line?  Don't you change the time line every time you make a decision?  Not to mention, there is no way of knowing if avoiding a particular danger will really save any lives or turn you onto a path where even more lives will be lost.

First, I want to say that I dont think Spock alone can be blamed for the creation of this new universe.

And to answer your question in  general, I think Spock would oppt to do nothing and let the universe unfold natrurally.

I can only see him interfering if certin things dont happen.

And in truth, theres reallky only so much he could do to help, remember, hes an almost 160 year old half vulcan/human.

Its quite possible he wont live to see events such as the Doomsday Machine, the whale probe, the Borg, etc.

And the only rational he needs in not doing anything is the knowlidge that this universe has already seen much change from his, untold numbers of lives lost, and subsuquent new lives birthed ,due to Nero's actions when he first arrived asnd when he attacked agasin 20+years later.

the changes that already happen were not in Spocks control. They were not done by intent.

an untold amount of history, events, lives have already been changed and the universe continues.

this is a different universe now, who is Spock to say who should live and die in it?
