Fascinating Mr Spock.

Have found some basic explanations of neural networks - for us Earthlings to understand.

There's lots more videos and info to go through.

Thanks Palomar1932.
There's some interesting research going on, but we're a long way from the neural networks and bio-computers of the VSA, as described by Mr Spock.

Have been thinking about Mr Spock's item on the VSA beaming the Vulcan DNA info to distant planets.

If we could beam a signal with our DNA info to the Moon or Mars or Titan, so that a person could be created in a Robotic DNA Re-Fabricator, it would be like a teleportation or transporter system.

Except that instead of transporting James T Kirk, it would create a new, embryonic Kirk, which would need programming and educating for 25+ years! A Kirk doppleganger!

Easier just to send a robotic lab to Mars with a few humans to operate it and bring up the children, or have their own children!

But it would be a way of colonising more distant planets and their moons.

Here's something to debate that will intrigue you.

We know that a light photon travels at the speed of light and nothing is thought to able to travel faster than the speed of the photon. We also know that the only two factors that govern or effect the speed of light are a sun which light photons are created from and black holes which are the only known factor that is able to counter-act the speed of light. We also know that the black hole is the inverse operation of a sun.

If both the sun and blackhole are creation and governing factors that determine the velocity of a photon as traveling at the speed of light and that neither factor would have been present prior to the Big Bang from which suns and blackholes were both created from and both generate gravity, gravity that would not have been present prior to the Big Bang then what would be a velocity of travel that particles would exist at? The speed of infinity could be theorized as the top most velocity because even though infinity is infinity and traveling at the speed of infinity would not put you over the event horizon of the speed of infinity but would merely allow you to occupy and point in space in almost an instant.

Would time reside past the speed of infinity?

There are some interesting points here:  The question of travelling faster than infinity.  Does time exist on the far side of an event horizon?

You probably know all about the Standard Model and the Superstring theory.  Some very clever physicists and mathematicians have come up with these complex, multi-dimensional solutions to try to answer the fundamental questions.

However, there are contradictory opinions also.  Here's the first of three references for recent books.

The reviews from Amazon are included, so no need to read the whole three books if you don't want to.

FAREWELL TO REALITY:    How Modern Physics Has Betrayed the Search for Scientific Truth.

Author:   Jim Baggott.        Publication Date: August 6, 2013

From Amazon.com:

In this stunning new volume, Jim Baggott argues that there is no observational or experimental evidence for many of the ideas of modern theoretical physics: super-symmetric particles, super strings, the multiverse, the holographic principle, or the anthropic cosmological principle.

These theories are not only untrue; they are not even science. They are fairy-tale physics: fantastical, bizarre and often outrageous, perhaps even confidence-trickery.

This book provides a much-needed antidote. Informed, comprehensive, and balanced, it offers lay readers the latest ideas about the nature of physical reality while clearly distinguishing between fact and fantasy.

With its engaging portraits of many central figures of modern physics, including Paul Davies, John Barrow, Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking, and Leonard Susskind, it promises to be essential reading for all readers interested in what we know and don’t know about the nature of the universe and reality itself.

Here's the second book:

BANKRUPTING PHYSICS:   How Today's Top Scientists are Gambling Away Their Credibility.

Authors:   Alexander Unzicker and  Sheilla Jones          Release date: July 30, 2013

From Amazon.com:

The recently celebrated discovery of the Higgs boson has captivated the public’s imagination with the promise that it can explain the origins of everything in the universe.

It’s no wonder that the media refers to it grandly as the "God particle."

Yet behind closed doors, physicists are admitting that there is much more to this story, and even years of gunning the Large Hadron Collider and herculean number crunching may still not lead to a deep understanding of the laws of nature.

In this fascinating and eye-opening account, theoretical physicist Alexander Unzicker and science writer Sheilla Jones offer a polemic.

They question whether the large-scale, multinational enterprises actually lead us to the promised land of understanding the universe.

The two scientists take us on a tour of contemporary physics and show how a series of highly publicized theories met a dead end.

Unzicker and Jones systematically unpack the recent hot theories such as "parallel universes," "string theory," and "inflationary cosmology," and provide an accessible explanation of each.

They argue that physics has abandoned its evidence-based roots and shifted to untestable mathematical theories, and they issue a clarion call for the science to return to its experimental foundation.

And the third book:

THE HIGGS FAKE:    How Particle Physicists Fooled the Nobel Committee.

  Author:   Alexander Unzicker.            (corrected)   http://www.thehiggsfake.com/

Publication Date: October 9, 2013

From Amazon.com:

Does This Year’s Nobel Prize In Physics Make Einstein Turn In His Grave?

The Higgs Fake – How Particle Physicists Fooled the Nobel Committee is a merciless critique of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and of the theoretical model on which the world’s most expensive experiment is based.

Unzicker, a German physicist and award-winning science writer, argues that the reaction of the Swedish Academy to last year’s discovery appears to be a result of being beguiled by CERN’s attempts to justify the billions of dollars of public money being spent.

The book starts off by claiming that the greatest physicists such as Einstein, Dirac or Schrödinger would have considered the “discovery” of the Higgs particle ridiculous.

The reasons, according to the author, are that:

1) the so-called standard model has grown unbelievably complicated,

2) none of the great riddles of physics that have persisted for a century have been solved,

3) history suggests that the current model is a dead end,

4) with their ever-more intricate experimental techniques, particle physicists are fooling themselves with alleged results,

5) scientific convictions in the community are established by blind faith in expert opinions, group-think and parroting, and

6) the data analysis in its complexity cannot be overseen by anybody.

Unzicker gives a historical survey of the field, and concludes that particle physics, as practiced since 1930, is “a futile enterprise in its entirety.”   The book is peppered with a series of funny quotes from famous philosophers and scientists.

In the last section, “Antidotes,” he specifically attacks “the overstated claims by famous physicists such as Rolf-Dieter Heuer, Michio Kaku, Lisa Randall, Sean Carroll, Brian Cox and Jim Al-Khalili.”

At the end, Unzicker lists questions that he would like to be asked to particle physicists at press conferences, hearings and discussions.

Unzicker's books have been praised as “well-grounded, sound, [and] informed,” and as “vehement pleading for physics as a natural science, in its best tradition,” but also dismissed by particle physicists as an “incoherent rant” and “time-wasting nonsense.”

The new book, written in an even more explicit and provocative tone, is likely to upset the high energy physics community.

Praise for previous books of the author:

The assertion that “science means, after all, not being a sucker” is well worth taking to heart.  – Publishers-weekly.

A broad dismissal of modern theoretical physicists…Unzicker also targets the massive expenditures of funds on high-energy particle accelerators.  – Kirkus Reviews.

Unzicker dares to think outside the mainstream. A refreshing and provoking book... – Prof. Hans Volker Klapdor-Kleingrothaus, University of Heidelberg.

Timely needed revision of contemporary physics´ idiocies. - Prof. Antonio Ruiz de Elvira, University of Alcalá de Henares.

A passionate and profound search for scientific truth.  Unzicker's questions to particle physicists at CERN are justified. - PD Peter Thirolf, nuclear physicist at Munich University.

A major contribution to physics... Unzicker is pointing out that the emperor is naked... The establishment scientists will curse and moan.  – Edwin E Klingman, author, former NASA Research Physicist.

Interesting references, Mr Spock.

Have thumbed through the first two books in Barnes & Noble, but the third one is not yet in the store (Palm Desert).

The reviews you quote give a good summary.  These books may, finally, shake up the science community.
