Trek fans complained that Abrams' Trek was too much like Star Wars. Will Wars fans now say that his Wars is too much like Star Trek?

Honestly, I think it could be a death sentence for both franchises. Its the biggest debate in the sci-fi world. Star Trek or Star Wars? You cant like them the same. One of them has to be more of your fav than the other. Its like having dual allegiance to teams in your own division and conference in football, baseball or hockey. You cant do it. Any way, I could go on forever. Abrams probably wont be back for trek.

Let's see how much Star Wars history JJ will rewrite...

- Luke is now the Emperor
- The Siths are the good guys fighting the Emperor
- Tatooine is now a waterworld
- Jabba the Hutt is thin
- Chewy marries Leia
- C3PO is the captain of the Decade Falcon

......

OOOOOOH! NO WAIT! Luke will be Larry Fitzgerald from earth 5 that has an uncanny amount of microfilaments that enables him the ability to wield a light sword. Endor will be Tatooine and vice versa. Jabba will actually be the heavyset guy they used in ep4 before the scene was cut and then replaced by CGI jabba. Mickey Mouse will have a walk on cameo along with Wolverine slashing away at an AT-AT that is renamed THERE-THERE. Marvel is disney too. Remember?

Im thinking this is a good thing. I think the same things that made him bad for Star Trek are what make him great for Star Wars. Im excited to see what he does with this.

Folks seem a little confused. Lucas sold the whole Lucas kit and caboodle to Disney including ILM and Skywalker Sound. Lucas won't be writing anything for the upcoming film and that is a very good thing. His title is creative consultant and that's probably purely out of respect and not for direct and final decision involvement.

As for the whole SW/ST thing, it's not that serious except to folks who think non-living entertainment vehicles deserve loyalty. It really is possible to like one, both or none of the above.

JJ hasn't said whether or not he will direct a third ST film. It probably depends on his schedule and the success or not of STID. Trust that if he doesn't come back for a third film, it won't revert back to the prime timeline. Folks really need to make peace with that and enjoy the oldies but goodies. I've recently re-watched all the old films except INS.

Me personally, I think ST could stand to be loosened up a bit and SW tightened up (a lot, Eps. I-III were craptacular). It doesn't even make sense to try to completely mash-up/use the same template for the two and I doubt JJ would do that anyway. There's more money to be had with separate franchises and multiple sequels.

The Narada (Death Star) commanded by a member of the Romulan Empire (Galactic Empire) blows up Vulcan (Alderaan) and then attempts to blow up Earth (Yavin IV) but is stopped at the last minute by Kirk and Spock (Luke and Han). They go home and get medals. The end.

How was it any worse than Nemesis, Star Trek V (which I enjoy but could have been better), or bad episodes of the various series? Star Trek didn't have some never reaching perfect score till Abrams came around you know. It's ups and downs like any type of show that has had that longevity.

You think Whovians think that in all 50 years of Doctor Who that it is 100% perfect?

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

>I'm still a bit on the fence about it; I'm personally a fan of the '09 Trek film and am excited about Into Darkness, but I'm hesitant to be excited about him directing the new Star Wars film. I really just hope he doesn't try to reboot the series or change anything in the timeline - I feel like doing so would be a bit disrespectful to the franchise considering how built up it and established it already is. Here's to hoping for the best, though.

He rebooted Star Trek and changed the timeline somewhat depending on what Trek fan you are talking to.
