Ive just been watching Generations and Ive often had a thought about Picard still being in the Nexus etc.
For the fun of it, I just searched it and it led me to posts here.
In explaining it, a member here pointed out that in Voyager, Troi and Barklay converse and she mentions Picard so therefore Picard wasnt in the Nexus. That thought led me to think, since Soren and Picard both were in the Nexus as it flew away, Troi and the others died on the surface of Veridian 3 so she couldnt have had conversations with Reggie.
As I continued to watch Generations, things I didnt see, hear or understand in a way before (and a direct line from Guinan that Picard could go any where any time) clearly show me the answer. Any where, any time.
That meant that if Troi and Reggie have that encounter, it stands to reason that the any where and any time Picard chose, with Kirk, and the success of their mission meant all things were restored.
Now, the reason I even write this is twofold.. someone might read it and understand and also,
to get something out of me... as a writer and as a fan I realize that all the years that one notion of the timeline etc was because I didnt catch that one line from Guinan. I hadnt known anything about the movie beforehand and I intended it that way. Generations is an emotional movie for me and to be honest, I shed quite a few tears when I saw it in the theater and everytime Ive seen it since.
Kirk's death and realizing that it is how history records his fate, the side of Picard they show, the two Klingon sisters return and the cost to the crew with the loss of the Enterprise D, the very mad Dr Soren (oh these villians and the cost the render to others) and Kirk's true death .. as an original Star Trek fan and remembering Spocks death when I was young (I am nearly 41 now) it just struck such an emotional cord with me at that time in my life.
Watching it just now, after a long time actually, hearing and understanding it in a dif way and seeing it in a different way as well just prompted me to write this...
Damn movie still brings some tears tho...
Sad but good story.... good story....
I would have loved to have seen Spock, Kirk and Scotty together somehow in the 24th century- I mean, they'd managed to get those three to the future in a believeable way and yet, we never had the chance to see it be "reality" in terms of Trek story or history...
Bittersweet....
Check out my book that's just been released if any of you Trek fans are Knots Landing fans also..
It's a companion book for the series and and overall 30 history called, Knots Landing Revisited.
