Exept for the Changlings (which is in fact also used in TOS (both in the series and Star Trek VI [in in TNG with weasley's 1st crush]) most of what you list is simply the complexities of real life, the USA and USSR were once enimies, now are friends; in WW I&II countries that a century before were governed by kings who are all first cousins to one another, were fighting each other, in WWII the the Saudi's were our ally, on 9/11 saudi royals were among those who attacked us, etc.

I feel DS9 is the most character driven show, and as such involves subtleties that result in decisions one cannot just tune in a year later and still understand.  Compaired to DS9, all the other star trek char are cardboard cut outs, steriotypes if you prefer.  Data even says in one of the movies he's barely advanced at all, and really he's the one who advanced the most, except for weasly everyone acts the same in the last TNG movie as they did in Encounter at far point.

Its human intrigue, not ego-based nationalism (-ism like racism and sexism) which ALL the other shows are mainly about

I also loved it when the actors who played the Dr. and Kira got married in real life and had a child together.

I really would rather say juz positive things rather than debunk, but ignoring a thing that's just that you know you can improve upon or adjust into a better idea is like smelling bacon, coffee and cooking blueberry muffins and not going into the kitchen; so-

Wif regard to the idea that Voy's many adventures debunks the idea DS9 explores dif races etc.: Voy had the same prob the DS9 creators saw in the 1st 2 show, its gunship diplomacy, and shore leave vacations; you can't go to Bangkok b/c you think it has a sexy name, come back after a long weekend of adventures and have a full understanding of Thai culture if you didn't know it B4; and that's a culture on our own planet, in our own solar system, in the same arm of our spiral galaxy; not a dif quarter/quadrant of the Galaxy.

DS9 allows you the time to truly get to know dif cultures, and struggle with truly difficult social issues, that can’t be solved in 1-hour.  Plus the deal with religious issues that are very relevant today (ahem 9/11, Palestine, Western co.'s in Buddhist Asia) I never went along with the assumption that in order to be futuristic you can't believe in God; I think when we speak of religion we are really talking about culture, not that there is a god, but the codes of your religion under him/her/them, and you cannot rid yourself of culture (although they try in the burbs) you can only replace 1 culture with another, and if anything being futuristic should be allowing dif cultures to come together and them both taking the best from both cultures, in any combination that works for them; anything else quickly turns into oppression, which is bad

I love DS9.

The Cardassians were one of the best species created.

I think they should make movies with the characters.
