Star Trek

Now that the Andorians have finally gotten some decent screen presence in Enterprise, the novels seem to be taking a huge dump on them.  How dare anyone give a Federation race other than Humans & Vulcans any attention, even if it was before the Federation existed?  I don't have the time to read the novels, but I am curious about the Andorians.  There are novels that deal with a story line about the Andorians choosing to secede from the Federation.  Could someone give me some details on that story line?
