Let face it Pircard was nuts for turn Q for a few reason. First the amount knowlegel that Q had it giving UFP endless tantic advance of Romulus the Cardassion and other possible enemies that Federation now existed. So why word Pircard reject Q is he crazy.

it would be interesting to see Q as a crew member. the thing is would Q follow orders or just whisk the ship away on a whim to show Picard what is out there. It would have made for a great few episodes if they did try for a bit though

Being a member of a ship requires that they work together under a command structure. Q didn't want to do that and could not be trusted.

I agree with BamBam. Q simply could not be trusted.

Q killed a large number of crew members on the same episode he said that by deliberately throwing the Enterprise in the path of a Borg ship. So obviously he couldn't be trusted.

No, Picard was not crazy for turning down Q. Sure Q had knowledge that would benefit the Federation but the information is only as good as it is used. Q always "bashed" humans, however, at every opportunity Q himself acted worse than what he attempted to put mankind on trial for. He is undisciplined, self centrered, and could not follow and order if his life depended on it. Maybe all of these qualities is why I loved him so much!

I think he made the right choice. Q wasn't even saying useful things! Just Q things like "change the gravitational constant of the universe." He was always used to doing things at the snap of his fingers, and didn't seem to know anything else.

Would you let a dog into your home that isn't house-trained?
Would you let a Q into your starship?

I think having Q as a member of a starship crew could be a huge asset. How many other crewmembers could do what he can?
But, if you're his supervisor, be sure to always give him good reviews!

I'm a big Q fan, so I would of liked him as a crew member. However, I understand Picard's reasons. How can you seek out new life and new civiliations if you already know about all of them?

In "Qpid", Picard describes Q as "devious and amoral and unreliable and irresponsible and... and definitely not to be trusted."
Any one of those qualities would prevent a Starfleet officer from serving on a starship.

Q is an interesting character. I believe Picard should have taken this opportunity just to see what else Q is capable of. Sure it comes with the risk of being forever lost but isnt that the reason you are out there anyway, to explore new worlds and the fringes of the universe. I would have taken him on the crew immediatly!
