I mean in all shows we get the federation and then bam a mirror empire why cant we have something in the middle not a corrupt empire and not that naive federation...

Like from myriad universe "less of a perfect alliance" or similar to it a universe with more human characters,i mean not some evil morons but not a foolhardy heroes that save the galaxy every day...

Perhaps with more militaristic ships, uniforms but not some evil imperialists...

A united earth that acts more like a country from our time then the federation

There are plenty of shades-of-grey in Star Trek. But really if you think about it, you may be over-thinking the issue. The Empire exists as an extreme anti-Federation for one simple reason: Because someone, somewhere, decided one day that it would prob'ly be fun.

I often wonder if people can live in the Federation and trade with other cultures, like the Ferengi and the Orions.  Of course, once you leave your own culture's boundaries, you could be taking enormous risks.  But, it is interesting to speculate.

I don't see why not, but there are probably some trade embargos for specific factions.  Basically, don't trade with (fill in the blank), but otherwise go for it.

Historically speaking people have always had to trade with other cultures -- and the Federation particularly is into cultural exchanges and learning about others (even though they haven't really let go of prejudice like they would have you believe!) Connecting with others is an essential part of cultural diversity and well-being.

Also you do see a lot of examples of Federation people trading with others whether through exchange programmes (such as Riker's stint on a Klingon ship, or Phlox on the NX01 Enterprise) or the kind of transactions that happen at Quark's. Also we know they have trading embargos as well -- one of the reasons that Romulan Ale was illegal for so long.

You have to be savvy when dealing with people who are different than you are, but neither can you afford to be entirely insular, and I think the Federation understands that. If they didn't, they would be much the poorer for it.
