After the last movie I was on here frequently blasting how it was handled. But having seen the trailer and read some of the background info for Into Darkness, I have to say that I am more pumped for this one than any other Star Trek to date!
Into Darkness appears to have many of the things I had pleaded for in prior posts:
-a more dark feel
-more "real" feel to it, which Abrams seems to have suggested going for
-base it on an act of terrorism - Gene Roddenberry connected Star Trek to issues of the time (The Cold War), it's appropriate to do the same For our time.
-give Star Trek a more "military" feel - several scenes look like Abrams did this. I always felt that Star Fleet, while exploration based, would naturally be a military. This movie seems to go more in this direction.
I'm really pumped - Abrams seems to have really gotten bold with this one. It looks to be truely Star Trek for the 21st century!

Hear, hear.
They've even stated how the attack on Vulcan has had a 9/11 affect on the Federation.
What Cumberbatch's going to do to London will most likely be very gritty, and we're going to have to see how "our characters" are going to deal with it.
Very pumped for what JJ's cooked up again!

Agree with the OP completely, though I do hope it still has that "better future" theme.

With that future London I also do feel like "Into Darkness" is going to be sort of 9/11. Especialy when the villain is announced to be as a terrorist.

At least *some* of you aren't calling it "Star Trek Into Darkness" (as in a "trek into darkness"). The title is actually "Star Trek: Into Darkness". They just announced the Russian title - I'm hoping that since the Russian title doesn't make a sentence (and correctly separates it with a colon), that the US media (and IMDB and eh-vree-one including Startrek.com) might get a clue and stop calling it a "trek into darkness". The Russian title is "Star Trek: Vengeance" (yeah, with the colon that's missing). OH WAIT - MAYBE THERE ISN'T A COLON - maybe it's "Vengeance, Star Trek Style" - LOL!!! I kid, I kid... of course there's a colon and of course it's missing in the US media's version of the US title. Startrek.com - ask JJ - and if he says "No, there's no colon" please gently take him off to the side and say "Ummmm... yeah... there is. Fix it." ;-)
It's not a "trek into darkness" it's "Star Trek: Into Darkness". Mkay?

I can't wait! Going to the midnight premiere. I noticed in the trailer Spock doing the vulcan hand salute through a WINDOW?! Wrath of Khan?! Again?! I doubt JJ will completly remake wrath of khan, but since this is more of an alternate reality series, perhaps this will be Khan related. Like a better explanation of what happened with Khan and Kirk. what do you think?

What are you rambling on about? Who gives a rat's arse if there's a colon or not?
Officially, the US title has NO colon. It is "Star Trek Into Darkness." Whether you like it or not, that's reality.

No, no Khan. I don't get why people keep hammering on the same issue.

Into Darkness appears to have many of the things I had pleaded for in prior posts:
-a more dark feel
The name Into Darkness confirms that. I don't see why everything has to be dark. I mean, It gets your blood pumping faster I guess, but i'm starting to get tired of all the darkness and evil.
-more "real" feel to it, which Abrams seems to have suggested going for
What is "real?" More violence and evil people? Disagreements? Imorality? I don't know, I sort of liked Rodenberry's idea of the future.
-base it on an act of terrorism - Gene Roddenberry connected Star Trek to issues of the time (The Cold War), it's appropriate to do the same For our time.
That would be pretty good. It connects more with people to hace a movie more like reality.
-give Star Trek a more "military" feel - several scenes look like Abrams did this. I always felt that Star Fleet, while exploration based, would naturally be a military. This movie seems to go more in this direction.
I never thought it of not military, especially in DS9. I hope they don't start making people like today's military and have barracks, though.
I'm really pumped - Abrams seems to have really gotten bold with this one. It looks to be truely Star Trek for the 21st century!
I guess I'm interested to see it. I don't think I'll like it as much as, say, a real star trek film, but It's nice to see what's going on. But again, "for the 21st century?" as in a generic action movie with a lot of bad people? I guess Past Tense is getting to be more like reality!
