I know the plot now! Here's the deal. When Nero made his incursion, that event caused ripples in sub-space, and those ripples ever so slightly changed the course of the Botany Bay. Weller runs across the drifting ship, boards it, and after realizing what he came across, decides to revive one, and only one of the sleeping. The one he chooses just happens to be John. We will hear the name Khan at some point, whether it be on the ships manifest, or possibly as a failed attempt at revival.
Weller begins grooming John for his nefarious purposes, but at some point John is captured by the Klingons, and later escapes, making his way to Earth to exact revenge for his banishment.
There, figured it out. Hope I didn't spoil the movie for ya'll!

That actually makes a lot of sense and I would be totally down with it. The end of the movie could have Peter Weller deciding to revive Khan, we see him start to wake up and then fade to black........boom......third movie.

I like it! Thought the part about "sub-space ripples" is probably unnecessary, as in the new timeline it's unlikely the Enterprise would be the first ship to find the Botany Bay.
I still think that Harrison is one of Spock's relatives. The hands at the end of the teaser belong to him and Spock, plus the line about "family", are good indicators.

Since Carol Marcus is featured, she worked on Starbase 47 on the Taurus meta-genome project, which is the precursor to Project Genesis. The meta-genome came from Shedai technology and there is a brief clip in the trailer of what looks like a room full of hibernation chambers with clear glass opening at the head of each chamber. The Shedai were supposedly in hibernation. Harrison may have been a crewman on the USS Constellation which discovered the meta-genome or was somehow involved with the meta-genome project.

Where is all this info on Marcus's background from? Who the heck are the Shedai? I've watched a lot of Star Trek in my time and I've never heard of any of this.

One of the novels, I suspect.

That was pretty much my assumption as well. I can see why Paramount/CBS declares novels "non canon." It would just be too complicated to keep track of all that universe.
