From the trailer: Wants nothing for peace. He has returned (to earth?). He is not happy. Rhetorical speech.
From the writers: "Canon" character. No mention of if its TOS Canon or not so it could be any series (like Enterprise).
Who is it?
Khan is my guess as he fits all criteria. Gary Mitchell does fit too since he is floating dead in space (comics which are canon too) but I don't think Gary talks like Khan (hint of Khan style speech in the trailer).
I can't remember any big bad guys from Enterprise. We know they have an Enterprise reference or two with the last movie so it could be someone from that time period. Who did Archer piss off back then?

Actually the comics aren't canon.

He pissed off a lot of people.
Let's see...Future Guy and the Suliban (don't think so), the Xindi-Reptilians (definitely not), Terra Prime (that could work), Section 31 (also possible)

So, I think I would be the entire farm on a couple of things:
1. It's not going to be a "crossover" villian. So forget what you saw in DS9 or ENT or whatever. General audiences aren't going to care about "Section 31" or Xindi or anytihng obscure like that. I loved DS9, and even I don't care what Section 31 is all about. I doubt the average viewer, who this is targeted at, is going to either.
2. The filmmakers want to mis-direct us and get us spinning as much as possible. It's part of the fun. So, anything you THINK you've picked up on isn't going to really be right.
3. It's not Khan.

If Quinto wants out, dont give him the death scene Nimoy and Shatner spent years to earn...just have debris fall on him and be done with it!

Remember, the "Countdown Comics" were used to lead into the last movie.
I don't see an Enterprise villain as a viable bad guy.
Lot's of TOS "bad guys" to choose from though.
I just found this great Star Trek MB!!

Agree! We are being spun all over the place!!
Kind of fun trying to figure it out though.
I think Scotty needs to find Portos and give him to T'Pol.

Yeah, but they were never really considered canon. Just an apocryphal prequel.

Neither do I.

Don't be ridiculous! It's actually an evolved Spot who is now an evil humanoid feline. The cat got lost in a quantum singularity while onboard a Holoship, this was caused by the reverse engineering of red matter by the Klingons. Oh and he's quite the detective as while he was on the Holoship the only thing that was playing was Data's Sherlock Holmes Program.

The morning the trailer came out, Garth of Izar's Memory Alpha page said "His career dissolved in a dramatic descent INTO DARKNESS...", but it was changed within a day and "darkness" was replaced with "madness". I think Garth better fits what we have seen than either Gary Mitchell or Khan. My guess is that the blonde is Dr Carol Marcus and either her life or her child's life is threatened/killed by Garth.
