>That best not be a re-do of Spock's death as seen in STWOK. That happened way after the original 5 years, which I assume they are just getting in to. To re-do that scene would just be a cheap shot. Besides, Quinto has to return for the third installment (hopefully), or are they gonna go find a baby Spock on the Genisis planet, which wouldn't exist, new timeline or not, as the technology for that device would not have been developed. I'm confused.

because obviously the only reason a person could make a vulcan sign on one side of the glass, and someone touch the other side would be to do a remake of wok?

I'm sure whatever it is the gesture is the same as the tribbles in Scotty's office, an easter egg to the fans.

Check out the Into Darkness movie trailer released in Japan (you can find it on itunes movie trailers - probably elsewhere too).  It is in English with Japanese subtitles - it is slightly longer and reveals a bit more.

>Not sure whether I like it or hate it. It tells us almost nothing about the movie, besides the fact that somebody is out for revenge (again). Then again, it is a teaser.

>Anyone know when the theatrical trailer comes out?

14 December as a lead in to "The Hobbit" on IMAX.

As a writer I have to say that the Japanese trailer purposely cut two scenes to re-create the Khan-like "death scene".  They're just stirring up old feelings, hoping to drag more fans in...as if they really need to - we know everyone will be there anyway.

A short anaylsis on my part suggests that Spock is fine - it is Kirk who is in trouble at that moment. It's a knod to "Khan" of course, but the roles are reversed. I can tell.

My own feelings are mixed at this point. I wonder if Spock will have the opportunity to meld with Kirk, thereby touching old Spock's thoughts and seeing the timeline as it should have been. Kirk may have not been able to see further into Spock's mind while being blasted with the brief history of Spock's dealings with Nero, but new Spock would have no trouble discerning the rest. If so, it would add just a bit more desparation to the plot, a reason why the characters would become closerthan ever, and point them further in the direction of attempting to force thier timeline back to its original course.

Even if they cannot undo the timeline damage, it will cement Kirk and Spock in ways that only Kirk/Sock/McCoy fans can dream of.

As Kirk might say, "I've got a wopper of a belly-ache" over this. A cataclymic return by Mitchell will make for a great film, but a lot of headaches, canon-wise.

So I'm alone in thinking that Cumby looks like a member of the Soong family?

>Well, I have to admit, it does lean that way with such little info. For a while I was thinking it could be Gary Mitchell, then I thought Charlie Evans. Evans is out, the character is too old. Still could be Mitchell, but the teaser does make me lean more towards Khan.

>Then again, you have a new actress that could very well be Dr. Elizabeth Dehner. She has the same sort of haircut that the original character had, and she was wearing medical blue. Of course, she could also be Chapel, but Chapel wasn't a vital character in the Khan story. Also, the villian was wearing a black Starfleet undershirt. Why would Khan be wearing that? And assuming the villian was the one making the speech in front of the audiance, why would Khan be doing that?

>Raises more questions than it answers. Well played JJ, well played.

>And who knew Enterprise class ships could be submarines?

>

As for the woman they showed in the film, I'm pretty sure that could be Janice Rand. Although I did not notice until watching it a second time you can see her handing Kirk a pad. I know she does not have Rand's haircut but still is a possibility that is whom she is.

Over all I personally was not impressed with the trailer. It looked like a typical futuristic movie where someone is blowing up a city, there are crashes and explosians...Only thing is I know it is supposed to be star trek. I hope to see more of McCoy (only saw him once in the trailer) and was hoping this Uhura's role would be a bit diminished but it doesn't look like that's the case.

I know this is just a teaser but I look forward to a trailer with substance. This teaser does not have me excited in anyway only a little wary.

I agree completely. Its looks like its going to be a really good movie. But I'm not sure if it will be a good Star Trek movie.

Quite a few ST movies haven't been good ST movies, so there is a precedent.

true enough. what I guess I meant was, by the looks of it anyway, the movie looks like its focused on special effects and pointless destruction, rather than the sci-fi technobable and space fighting action that I associate with Star trek (if that makes any sense at all haha). thats stuff that I like about star trek, and if I hadn't seen the characters or the star trek logo at the end when i watched the trailer, then I would have guessed that it was a trailer for transformers or batman or something similar.

neverless, like I said, I think it will be a good movie.

>I'm not going to link to them because theres some spoilers. Might as well see the whole 9 minutes yourself or not.

>Just one spoiler: (Look away now)

>There is some action in London.  (apparently)

yeah saw the reviews for the press intived to see it and sounds more confusing than ever. they did say that alice eve is playing carol marcus. dr. marcus is wearing a starfleet uniform and i don't think she was ever in starfleet. i thought she was a scientist in a particular field that worked under them. also they mentioned some type of healing powers benny's character has as he apparently heals a child in the 9 minute clip. anyway i think they said the clip doesn't really reveal benny's character to be good or evil but it everything in the clip has star trek 2 TWOK over tones so i'm still leaning towards khan and i'm going to go down with the ship with it. sorry for some of the spoilers

Just remember with all the complaints with "too much action", this IS a trailer, and trailers are meant to draw you in. How much buzz would there be if the trailer was nothing but a bunch of shots of Kirk, Spock and McCoy sitting around gabbing? Think of all the other big movie trailers. They only show the parts meant to sell tickets.
