Well, someone had to bring it up. Does anyone actually believe that the mayans knew there would be an apocalypse? I mean seriously. Their end came long before their predictions. But anyway, it's supposed to happen in a few weeks, so I was just wondering if anyone really believes it.

Or maybe I just created this topic to make fun of them when it doesn't happen.

1,000,000 end of the world prophecies exist.

999,999 are wrong and are merely stories.....however 1 prophecy will be correct. How does humanity avoid this prophecy?

The only way to avoid the Apocolypse -

Defeating War - A Creation of Death and the Leviathan and the Leviathan's master.Being a Partiotic American I have to slam those slamming Israel for their expansion here in America for the simple if we look at our American history America did the same to the American Indians that Israel is comptemplating on doing in Gaza.
How many deaths on all sides occured because of the goal of the early American colonies expanding into the uknown wilderness?
So those slamming Israel need to check their vocal Mozart's at the door.
The ONLY REAL SOLUTION to the overcrowding of areas like Gaza that does not result in war or death occuring is the colonization of planetary bodies like the Moon and Mercury both of which have more than ample supplies of water to create habitats for humans.
Everyone says such a goal is too hard, that it costs so much, but would rather instead waste TRILLIONS of dollars finding ways to simply kill each other when those trillions of dollars spent on killing could be spent on finding ways to colonize the Moon and Mercury.
Which process is more excellent?
Spending money on trying to find ways to kill each other thus causing even larger widespread Death and destruction because is it far simpler to appease Death and kill and destroy and then build on the same ground the same process over and over again with no real progress or evolution but merely adding to the links of Deaths chain that keep us all chained inside of his deep and dismal dungeon.
or is....
Developing ways to colonize the Moon and Mercury where humans can expand too cost to much and take to much thinking and hardwork to accomplish the feat of building on both planets? Has humanity been fooled so much by Death and Death's constructs that they have forgotten their first evolutionary rule of survival that has been passed on up through the centuries of human existance? That number one evolutionary rule of survival is "When Death is at your doorstep and has chained you to the walls without seeing the light of Creation or that which can be created then the human must fight against Death and invent new ways of defeating Death and his minions."
Early man defeated Death many times over by evolving and creating humanity into the modern day society that we are. But as usual Death seems to have blocked humanity in this time with large economic burdens and constant war over lands that are trivial to begin with. Wars and strife that continue to keep humanity chained to Deaths walls while Death remains very powerful and Creation begins to wax and wane in the mind of humans.
The first part of any religious textbook on Earth always discusses the Beginning or Creation thus making this first rule for all humans. Create new places to live including off world on other planets so that Creation will be remembered by humans so that humans will experience Creation and all that Creation has to offer. To think and do otherwise to worship Death and his master the deepest and darkest one of all, the Leviathan.
So where are the Genesites, or those who are of Creation and by Creation, to lead humanity off world to build and colonize on the Moon and Mercury?
Are you a Genesite or are you part of Death's March across the Universe enslaving life and that which has been created for the simple loathing that because like Death itself who cannot create but only destroy that you loathe all those who can create and do create in such a manner because like your master your want all to worship you giving you power over all instead of empowering humanity to have power over Death?
Humans are kept so busy with the work of Death here on planet Earth on a daily basis that they are constantly made to forget about their freedom that is just there over the horizon on the Moon and Mercury.

A bullfrog with a light in its belly is nothing more than a glutton looking to shine otherwise.

The idea that we can ease the population problem on Earth by colonizing planets is naive.  The Earth's population grows by 165,000 people PER DAY!  You'd have to launch 1650 ships with 100 people on a day just to stay even.

No response must mean you all agree.

For a moment I considered organising an End of the World Party, just for the hell of it. I suppose if nothing else "Oh no I thought the world was going to end!" is a pretty great excuse if one forgets one's Christmas shopping.

Every few years, there's some stupid prediction. NONE of them were true. Remember "judgement day" last year? There was a sign near my house "advertising" it, and the next day they replaced it with "That was awkward."

But as Dukat!!!! said, they were an evil people, who's end came long before their predictions. There are plenty of other cultures who predicted those things anyway, so why are we pbsessed about the extinct people who loved cutting people apart?

Well, well, I see we've studied our Mayans, haven't we? (Yes, that was sarcasm.) The Mayans weren't an evil people, they did what they thought was right. If that meant feeding the hearts of their people to allow the Sun God to keep riding the sky, then that was what they had to do to keep the Earth alive. Primitive, yet interesting, as Spock would say.

In actuality the end of one calendar cycle is follwed by another. In our case, the next cycle heralds the coming of Quetzalcoatl, the god of intelligence and self-reflection. He will bring a new age of artistic enlightenment that will effect everyone from musicians, to painters, to scientists. Like Johnny Appleseed, he will walk the Earth bringing gifts, such as the one he brought the Mayans, HOT CHOCOLATE! How can you not like a guy like that??? Sure, he may end up being an alien, but...isn't that what the world needs? Peaceful contact with an alien civilization...one that can stand up for himself and give us new and amazing technology that will bring the world to a new-found peace and prosperity? Dudes, it could be FIRST CONTACT!

Anyhow, I'll be looking up at the sky and waiting for my cosmic muse-blast. For those of you stocking up, I wouldn't bother. The native Americans here (Hopi and Navaho) claim that if this visit causes the destruction of the world, that the only place you'll be safe is on their mesas, far away in Arizona. If the end of the world happens, get out your best walking shoes and head there. Look for Flagstaff; it's the closest city to their wonderful forests and preserves. Walk North from there. See you in a few months, if the worst should happen.

So far a apocalypse had been predicted way often likewise 9/11 or the Eugenics Wars. For the manner of Israel this conflct has been strukeling for millenias so why not ongoing support the country? In the Eugenics Wars mankind had defendet itself against genetic-engineerd superhumans, but it didn't happend.

At this time by announced for Dec. 21st 12 we would right now know if it would be true.

I don't think if some people here on the world haven't learned not to polute the planet, that we're not ready to colonize other planets for instance with terraforming. Thus for Mars - it would need a growhouse-effect on it to start a human favorable eco-system.

It's just in the case of the Mayans like this: After 5000 years the calendar starts over again & only this. There's no planet on colusion with ours or even impacting (& no meteorid)!
