Greetings! Although everyone says the Daystrom Insitute is on Earth, with an annex on Galor IV, I couldn’t find an exact location for it. Of course, it is probably located near the UFP complex in Paris, France, or the Starfleet complex in San Francisco, USA. But, since it is a civilian institution, it could be located anywhere. Wouldn’t it make sense for it to be located somewhere scenic?
Although the Federation can control the climate on its planets, I still think that islands are geologically unstable. So, I would pick out nice places on the continents, instead. (However, I do make allowances for the island-continent of Australia and the city of Mumbai, India.) And, I also tried to avoid places that (now) have hurricanes.
Therefore, here is my list of top choices for the location of the Daystrom Institute and/or Starfleet annexes:
1. Paris, France
2. San Francisco, California, USA
3. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
4. Monterey Peninsula—Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach
5. La Jolla, California
6. Mazatlan, Mexico
7. Montevideo, Uruguay
8. Mar del Plata, Argentina
9. Tangier, Morocco
10. Tunisia—either Tunis or Sousse
11. Nice, France
12. Zurich, Switzerland, and Konstanz, Germany—only 36 miles (58 km) apart
13. Leipzig, Germany
14. India—Mumbai or Surat
15. Thandwe (Sandoway), Myanmar (formerly Burma)
16. Sydney, Australia
Some alternative locations—which would also be very attractive sites—include:
1. Las Vegas, Nevada
2. Santa Fe, New Mexico
3. Puerta Vallarta, Mexico
4. France—Marseilles or Lyons
5. Geneva, Switzerland
6. Luzern (Lucerne), Switzerland
7. Kanpur, India
8. Australia—Melbourne or Adelaide
What do you think?
