This is really cool. The organizers of Starbase Indy decided to do a tribute to Neil Armstrong this year, contracted with NASA for an Apollo 11 exhibit, including such things as an Apollo helmet and suit. Then at the centerpiece of the exhibit will be an actual Moon Rock from Apollo 15. Astronaut David Wolf, who is a Purdue grad like Armstrong, will be speaking.
Oh yeah, and the sci-fi stuff. Stars from Star Trek like JG Hertlzer (Martok Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) and Nicole deBoer (Ezri Dax) will be at Starbase Indy: The 17th Generation, Nov. 23-25 in the Indianapolis Marriott East, 7202 E. 21st St.
Other stuff? Some fan will win a Klingon makeover from a makeup professional, and Martok and Gowron will do a Q&A in full makeup. And they're having a second annual Starfleet vs. Klingon battle of the bands, both in costume. It was really cool last year. You can create robots for robotic battles or strut your stuff in the masquerade.
They're having geek crafts, like knitting sci-fi patterns into clothing. There are the usual con suite and dealers rooms, and some kids activities.
Starbase Indy is run by local fans, and will be taking donations for its charities, Cat’s Haven, Jason’s Foundation (which works to prevent teen suicide) and LUNGevity. Google Starbase Indy to get to their website.
