One of my petpeves is how much he changed. A heavily accented very ferengi character. he was confident, even well with women. Opinions?

He met a Human who became his best friend. He experienced things that were outside of the Ferengi culture. He had the benefit of contact with many different peoples and cultures on board the station. He short, he grew up.

The first episode he was in he wasn't really that developed at all and came across as pretty much "cardboard cutter" Ferengi. Actually I really liked when he got an individual personality and became an interesting character, (It really didn't happen that late in the series) and particularly his later character development. It was especially fun when he would do something sneaky without Quark realising, such as embezzling money from Zek or plotting to assassinate Quark.

I'm with you. Even though he is very likable and he associated with other races, I think he grew/changed too much, in such a short time. It was good to see him succeed and become popular with the ladies, but I don't think it was entirely believable.

Are you talking about Nog or Rom?

Rom was kind of interesting - how he treated Keiko in the beginning and not questioning the Ferengi methods. With women, he acted like he was in charge, but with others, he cowered. And everyone thought he was an idiot until he finally learned to focus on his talents - engineering.

Nog i think you mean.
When i re watched the series it was hard to figure out when he really changed. it was so subtle and prolonged it made no particular episode stand out. i love the fact that he came from not wanting nog to go to school, to him being proud to have his son in star fleet, and becoming Grand Nagus.

Though as already stated in the early epsiodes Rom was a typical Ferengi in his conversation with Keiko. I realy think he changed later. As before he didn't want to Nog go to the human school. When he married Leeta & got a engineer, he showed that he's an unusual Ferengi. Nog being in Starfleet made the difference, for his father when he decided quiting in Quark's.

Ah -- yes. A reminder. I will admit that I wasn't keen on the "Grand Nagus Rom" development. Engineering was such a better fit for Rom's talents.

He did change quite a bit, but believably. This is over seven years. Quitting working for Quark and seeing how much better things were in Engineering gave Rom the confidence to tell Leeta how he felt about her.
