YES!!! I am going. Gold Weekend Package!!

It was posted on these boards late last Tuesday that the Gold Tickets were now on sale. I bought mine Wednesday. I am very excited and I will be staying at the Rio. As soon as I got confirmation on my ticket purchase I booked my room at the Rio.

I have only ever been to one convention which was around 1989 in Toronto, so this will be very exciting for me.

I figured that if I am only going to do this once, do it right and go to the big in...Vegas!!!

I'm near Houston, Texas.

I just got an e-mail from Creation about something they're doing for the SF Convention.

They're doing "VIP" and limited release, only 10 passes on an auction.

From the e-mail:

Ten lucky fans will have the opportunity to go behind the curtain and hang out during the daytimes where you will meet all our guest celebrities! You can come and go throughout the convention sitting in the theatre when you want or just relaxing backstage.

And the rest of the convention is totally VIP for you too: you go right to the head of the line for anything you have a ticket for: autograph lines, photo op lines, registration lines: NO WAITING for you if you win this auction!

You will also receive a collectible VIP laminate to wear throughout the convention that indicates your status.

You must have a Gold ticket in order to win the Backstage VIP Experiences. If you do not have a Gold ticket and you win, we will sell you one at the close of auction or have you pay the difference to upgrade your exisiting ticket to Gold status.

To give an idea on cost, auction has been at $500 and hasn't gone up. However, it might be priced more in Vegas, considering the "gold package" in SF is only $300.

I'm not sure how much I'd really enjoy backstage. All the actors/actresses are 50+ and married, I think I'd be good w/ putting the money toward photos ops+autos.

Here is the main page for the Vegas Convention, you will find all the informatin that is available about the convention as it becomes available.

As for deadlines, the Gold  and Captain's Chair packages have a limited number and I know the Gold sold out by January for the 2012 convention.

But there are smaller packages and also general admission, so there isn't a hard deadline as far as I can see, everything sells until it is sold out.

If you are looking for a higher end package like the Gold I would suggest don't wait, the sooner you buy, the better the seat you can pick in the main theatre, and the Gold does sell-out.

I hope this helps you out.

Well Houston isn't too far from Vegas, you'll probably get a pretty reasonable domestic flight.

As for the backstage package, that will probably be a little pricey on top of the Gold ticket, I would be really sure what it is you get out of the backstage access.

Shatner recently did a documentary called "The Captains"; maybe you have seen it, where he interviews all the Captains over all the series.

There is some footage in the film of him at a Convention (could even be the Vegas one), and he is shown meeting some people backstage. It is a very polite introduction and handshake, then he moves to the next person, no chit-chat, no photos, lasts as long as it takes to say your name and shake hands.

Now, it may be different with other stars, but I tend to agree with you that the money is better spent on photo-ops and autographs. I don't know for sure, but I'll bet you at least get to introduce yourself and shake hands at those too.

I kind of think of the backstage as a "nice-to-do/try" once I have already done a convention with the autos and photo-ops.

I'm almost certainly going, unless something comes up. I've always wanted to go to a convention like this, and I'm very excited.

By any chance, would anyone here be interested in meeting up at the convention?

Okay, I did it! I sprung for the Gold Weekend! But now that I've gone through all of that, I'm just curious, who has done the gold package before?

I know you get good seats and (some) included autographs. I've been to Creation Cons before (although with plain ond 'reserved - no fluffy add-ons' tickets) so I get this. But what about this other stuff: the VooDoo Lounge Party, the Dessert Party, the 'special bonus' card that apparently gives you free stuff in the Dealer's Room... what is all of that stuff? Can anyone who has done this paclage before describe what it's like?

Also, I have a question about the costume contest. I cosplay at various cons and I enjoy wearing costumes, but I can't sew. I'm not crafty. I have to hire other people to make costumes for me (although I'm pretty good at cobbling together random pieces to make extras or accessories). Would I be allowe to enter the costume contest with a costume that I didn't make myself, but was still unique/customized? Also, can non-Trek costumes enter the costume contest? I have Trek costumes, but my best ones are noot Trek.

TIA for any answers you can provide!

Planning on going to STLV 2013, but waiting on the cheaper ticket.  Got Platinum last year, and I'm not an autograph/celeb junkie so it really wasn't worth it for me, so I'll probably just go with a standard 4 day pass and take binoculars to see the captain/cast reunion convos (or just watch it on the big screens in the convention hall).  If anyone is interested in grabbing a drink, well, it is Vegas, and I will most likely be doing that for four straight days
