First of all, Jolan Tru, fellow Trek fans, as this is my first post here. Startrek.com has changed a lot, and I like it. Anyhow, something's been driving me buggy for a while. The spelling of Dr. Soong's first name. There doesn't seem to be any kind of canon agreement on spelling either way.

Startrek.com lists it as Noonien.

Memory-Alpha lists it as Noonian.

Soong's first name was spelled "Noonien" in the scripts for "Datalore" and "The Measure Of A Man" while all subsequent scripts ("Brothers", "A Matter of Time", "Birthright, Part I", and "Inheritance") spelled the name "Noonian". The okudagram for Data's personnel file seen on-screen in "Conundrum" used "Noonian" while the passenger manifest seen in "Inheritance" used "Noonien".

The Star Trek Encyclopedia also lists it as Noonien.

So... does it just come down to personal preference? Being that it's a Romanization of a Chinese name, does it matter?

The only reason it's been bugging me specifically is that I was hoping to write a story about the character and I'm left thinking, "... uh, Noonian or Noonien?"

StarTrek.com is the authoritative source.  Memory Alpha, while useful, is still a wiki.

And the character was named after Khan Noonien Singh, which is something to consider as well, I suppose.

Sorry, I meant to say Kim Noonien Singh, who both Khan and Soong were name after.
