Personally, I liked the 2nd season the best. While the first season had some good episodes, they were still coming into their own and figuring out who these people were and ironing out details and stuff. The 2nd season was when they gelled and had more consistently good episodes. And let's not EVEN talk about the 3rd season.

Ahh, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold....in space.

YES I agree totally! Took the words right out of my mouth! The first season they were learning what direction they wanted to go, the second season they really came into their own, and the third season...they were trying too hard to impress, and then it was cancelled.

Eh, the third season had some gems (All Our Yesterdays and The Tholian Web come to mind) but I'd say the second season. It had the best episodes of all of the Original Series.

I could not vote because this is difficult for me to answer.  Here's why--

My favorite episodes are as follows:

The City on the Edge of Forever

The Galileo Seven                             }    Both are in SEASON 1

Journey to Babel

Amok Time                                   }    Both are in SEASON 2

So I like Season 1 and Season 2.

My favorite episode of all of them is The City on the Edge of Forever

All good episodes you mentioned, and I LOVE City On The Edge Of Forever! Kirk's only truly deep relationship that went beyond just hot space sex, and the emotion of having to let her die. Fantastic story!

I would have to agree with everyone else here.  Season 2 was consistantly the best, though latter episodes from season 1 and an odd episode of season 3 were also good.  I always loved the time travelling episodes back to Earth (e.g. "The City on the Edge of Forever" and "Tommorow is Yesterday" - which are both from season 1).

I also particularly liked "The Immunity Syndrome".  This showed that although there was continued sarcastic rivalry between Spock and McCoy, they were really friends and respected each other. It also states that the Vulcans logic was not as strong as human instinct, which led to their uncomprehending death.  It was clever that the Enterprise became an antibody killing an infection that threatened the body of the universe.

I also loved "The Changeling", "The Doomsday Machine" and "Operation: Annihilate" to name but a few.  There are too many good episodes to name!

My favorite season is the second season. My favorite episode is a 2 way tie between The Doomsday Machine and A Piece Of The Action. DM for it's raw power and emotion, APOTA for the comedy aspects. Kirk, Spock and Scotty trying to act and talk like gangsters is hilarious.

Season One....hands down...like most shows from that period.  There was much more humor to season two...so I see it's appeal.....but I prefer the stories of season one...with my favorite ten episodes:

City On The Edge of Forever

Balance Of Terror

Shore Leave

Tomorrow Is Yesterday

The Menagerie

Where No Man Has Gone Before

The Galileo Seven

Conscience Of The King

The Naked Time

Court Martial

Season 2 simply for Amoke Time but I do love The Naked Time in season 1. Sulu brandishing a foil acting like a pirate my all time favorite.

I really can't choose. All 3 seasons had gems AND dogs. Even though 3rd season had more dogs than gems, some of my favorites are in there, too. The ONLY episode that had NO redeeming qualities in my opinion was "And The Children Shall Lead" (Admit it-"Spock's Brain" had some nice opticals for the time--and pretty girls!)

It's hard to say...

Season One had great ones:

"WNMHGB"

"Devil in the Dark"

"Corbomite Maneuver"

"Balance of Terror"

"City on the Edge"

...and some less-appealing ones:

"Miri"

"Charlie X"

Mudd's Women"

Season 2 Likewise had fantastic episodes:

"Amok Time"

"Journey to Babel"

"Doomsday Machine"

"The Trouble with Tribbles"

"Omega Glory"

"Mirror, Mirror"

and some below average ones...

"Catspaw"

"Who Mours for Adonais"

"Metamorphisis"

Just Like Season 3 has some of my favorites:

"Day of the Dove"

"Enterprise Indicent"

"Tholian Web"

"All Our Yesterdays"

"That Which Survives"

...and some equally weaker ones:

"Plato's Stepchildren"

"Turnabout Intruder"

"The Way to Eden"

So...I can't really pick one that's "better" than the others. I think, on the whole, the season with the highest quality was probably season 2...but I like them all equally.

Season 1. Bar none. It is an amazing collection of the best of the shows writing (in my opinion).  Season 2 was great just not as great as season 1.

Season 3 was a little strange (of course I watched and always will) but when Roddenberry stepped back, it studdered a bit.
