>It was originaly named Yorktown, after the aircraft carrier, but the Enterprise (seen in The Voyage Home) was the newest and best in the fleet, so they decided on that.

your post is a bit confusing. What ship are you saying was originally named "Yorktown"??
Which Enterprise are you claiming was seen in The Voyage Home and was the newest and best in the fleet?
|
Sorry, Gene Roddenberry was going to name the Starship Enterprise Yorktown, but decided to name it Enterprise.
The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) aircraft carrier, being decomisssioned this year, which was in the Voyage Home, (Itz ze enterprize!) was the newest aircraft carrier, and was being praised a lot, so they decided to name the starship after it.
"Borg. Sounds Swedish."

thanks for clearing that up......but not all of your info is exactly correct.
The aircraft carrier that was seen in the Voyage Home, was not the The USS Enterprise CVN-65
The Enterprise was on manuvers durring the filming of TVH, so the USS Ranger CV-61 was used as a standin.
