In the episode where Geordi and Ro were phased why didn't they fall through the floor?

It's been a while since I've seen that episode, but I believe that Geordi and Ro Laren were just cloaked.

I've often wondered that myself. They were phased out of normal reality and trapped sort of between spaces, if you will, so that they could walk through walls and all that sort of stuff, but they were able to walk on the floor. Logically, if they could walk through the walls, then they should not have been able to stand on the floors and the ship should have flown off and left them floating in space.

Ahh, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold....in space.

They were also shown sitting on objects once or twice I think. When the phased Romulan was first shown he was sitting down normally at the seat of a console even though he was phased.

I figured it had something to do with the ship's artificial gravity. They're still breathing the air, so obviously being "phased" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

As already mentioned, they were breathing which meant a normal interaction with the air.  How long were they phased?  There are certain things they would have needed to do periodically such as eat, drink & some other things that we really don't need a visual for.

Also consider that even something like walking around involves a foot pushing you forward from a point on the floor which would require a normal interaction with that solid mass.

Pooneil said that the artificial gravity would make them unable to pass through seats and also the floor. If this were the case, it seems like they would have been able to move certain objects on the floor to show that they're still alive but invisible.

Because if they fell through the floor they would die and the episode would be over having lost one main character and one reaccuring top role.

I could come up with an exciting string of technobabble about the inner workings of the ship's artificial gravity, or about the phasing-cloak-thingy itself, but my blood sugar is low right now and I have more important things to do.

Let's just assume that the Romulan scientists who designed the phasing-cloak-thingy were clever enough to take these issues into consideration. Clearly the artificial gravity works in such a way that it affects "out of phase" matter as well as regular matter. Perhaps it's transphasic, whatever that means. I'm guessing the oxygen Geordi and Ro were breathing was also a by-product of either the molecular phase inverter or the warp core, which is a nice way to explain away a lot of things.

Also, there's no reason that they would "float off" into space if they couldn't touch the floor. They just wouldn't be able to move...until the ship moved, in which case they'd stay exactly where they were.

I guess that was also the same type of cloaking technology that was shown in the late TNG episode "The Pegasus". It was funny how they didn't mention anything about the events from The Next Phase in that later episode.
