hi guys/ladies
i just came across this, has anybody seen it before? or even gone ahead and made one? i know i will be making 1 in the very near future.
after i make mine i will post pics, and/or a video if i am allowed, im not sure yet about what i can and cant post on here, comments/advice would be welcomed.

This looks cool! But couldn't I just use one of those dollar laser pointers to replace where the lightbulb is, and hook it to the battery supply directly, saving tons of money on parts?

yes, you could if you wanted to, the main difference would be that, most cheap laser pointers dont send out a solid beam of light, but simply place a dot of light onto what ever you aim it at, where the blue ray laser produces a solid beam of light, as shown .

and how much do PS3s go for? sounds a bit expensive to me.

they vary in price, depending on which store you go to, if you dont want to purchase a ps3, just to remove the laser, it may be worth searching online or looking in yellow pages for "games console repeairers" and asking if they could sell you the laser,
or you could even ask around to see if anybody has a broken ps3 that they are throwing away, it is possible to get a laser for free that way
the phaser shown in the link cost less than $100 to make, i would imagine that a free laser would reduce that cost
