Often the starships are named after famous historical people. So, as I read in a book, in TNG:

The USS Nelson, after Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson or the USS Trafalgar would be good too

How about naming them after some great composers, like the USS Verdi, the USS Puccini, and even--one of my light-opera composers like the USS Lehar.

They have some cool ships names in A Call To Duty.  Some of those that are my faves are;


USS Pendragon ( Intrepid )


USS Pharaoh ( Defiant )


USS Delphyne ( Excelsior )


USS Minotaur ( Excelsior )


USS Apache ( New Orleans )


USS Dublin ( Norway )


USS Nighthawk ( Saber )


USS Scimitar ( Akira )


USS Seleya ( Sovereign )


USS Tal-war ( Akira )


USS Claymore ( Akira )


USS Sharikahr ( Norway )


USS Katana ( Akira )


 


And so many more


 


But for myself I kind of like the idea like the ships in the Navy being named after states.  I think there was a USS New York in a DS9 book.

And, taking a note from the USS Sisko, there should also be a USS Picard someday, when he ever retires from Starfleet.
