Now that the 2012 convention is behind us, it's time to start one for 2013.....
The first guests were announced in the back of the program for the 2012 convention.
And they are:
William Shatner
Avery Brooks
Kate Mulgrew
Ethan Phillips
Casey Biggs
Aron Eisenberg
Jeffrey Combs
Max Grodenchik
Marc Alaimo
Nicole de Boer
This con will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Deep Space 9, so I would expect more guests from that show.

This year's Vegas convention was awesome, and I'm already psyched for 2013. Definitely hoping we get all 5 captains plus a full DS9 crew. This was my first one, and I heard that 2012, as a convention, blew 2011 out of the water. Hoping that 2013 matches or exceeds 2012.

Gof for it! I made it for the first time this year, after a 10.5 hour flight (from the UK), and now I'm saving hard to be able to go again next year. It was truly amazing.

Hello to everyone. I have joined StarTrek.com in order to prepare for next August. The plans are made, I will be attending my first Convention since the 80's and be going to Vegas in 2013.
If you're gonna do it, do it right I figure. I hope to make some connections in the Star Trek community over the next year so that I can get the most out of Vegas 2013.
I look forward to an exciting year of anitcipation. I welcome any advice previous Vegas Convention Attendees are willing to offer.
Cheers!

Since my decision to attend Vegas 2013, I have been pouring over the Vegas 2012 info and schedules to try and get a handle on how to best spend my time there. Wow, what a packed four days, I think I will have to be very organized to as not to miss out on events.

It really depends how you approach it - four days is a lot of time. This was my first year as well, and I did all 4 days at STLV 2012. Thursday and Friday had the smaller events while Saturday and Sunday had bigger ones. My buddy and I spent more time at the pool, gambling, and enjoying Vegas the first two days (we did hit the convention for a few hours every day, but defintiely for fewer hours Thursday/Friday), and then Treked out the last two days. I found that to be a good balance. Before hand, we highlighted a bunch we wanted to see on all 4 days, and only hit about a third of it on the Thursday/Friday. That said, I might plan to do a little more Trek stuff (like the Kareoke) that we missed out on in 2013. Anyway, don't plan too hard - your mood for sitting in on guest panels will ebb and flow and Vegas will be calling
My other advice as a newbie - go in a costume. You would still have a good time without, but I personally regret not dressing up at least a little. If you've been to the conventions in the 80s, you probably know this and I'm preaching to the choir.
I'm personally counting down to STLV 2013 as well - sure it will be a blast!

Thanks Skilzkid, for the detailed reply. Sounds like some good common sense in the approach. I was thinking along the same lines as hi-liting must-do things and covering them early if possible. Outside of the must-do things I was hoping to stay pretty open minded and flexible. In similiar convention I attended; The National Sports Collectors Expo in Chicago last year, it was a four day event of sports memorabilia & my buddy and I completed everything we wanted to do in a day and a half, then got out to see Chicago. As you say, Vegas will be calling and I definitley wanted to see the sights. I want this event to be fun, not feel like work moving from event to event on a schedule.
As for the costume, I was giving that some thought myself. At first I didn't think I would do it, but then thought, "when in Vegas". I am a TOS guy anyways so, I could easily put together a nice costume and join the crowd. I have already found a guy on ebay who does custom TOS costumes, they look awesome, and his feedback on the work is stellar.
Thanks again, I know I'm going to have lots of questions and comments over the next year leading up.
Cheers!

Rawscoe - can you post the name of the guy on eBay? I think I found someone local to me in DC but wouldn't mind a backup if they are a ripoff.
