1: Lieutenant Commander Data - I believe that many of the Data-centric stories are 100% necessities for trying to understand life in the 24th century. They are also important for really getting an idea of what Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets stand for. Also, for an Android, he has a lot of depth of character.

2: Lwaxana Troi - 'I am Lwaxana Troi, daughter of the Fifth House, Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed. Who are you?' I feel like her presence on the Enterprise always breaks up some of the more tense situations as well as creates a few. Just wonderful.

3: The Doctor (from Voyager) - His sharp wit and wonderful bedside manner make him one of the more interesting characters in any of the Star Trek series.

4: Captain Kathryn Janeway - I love the idea of having a female Captain as the focus of a series, and I don't think Capt. Janeway disappoints. She is fair, passionate about her job and crew and a good role model for young women.

5: Captain Jean Luc Picard - A handsome, diplomatic and self assured Captain. Capt. Picard is not afraid to speak his mind, with his senior bridge officers, with his superior officers and, when diplomacy fails, with everyone, really.

6: Q - He never fails to deliver drama or comedy. Two of the main reasons ST:TNG is my favourite series.

7: Guinan - Two words: Whoo. Pi. I love me some Whoopie Goldberg. She has such a way about her... And Guinan herself is just such a strong minor character. Anyone Picard trusts implicitly can't be bad.

8: Commander William T. Riker - Gorgeous, and smart? I think so. He has a presence about him. A certain je ne c-est quoi...

9: Counselor Deanna Troi - She has a talent like no one else. She really rounded out the crew of the Enterprise and gave them an edge against foes. not to mention her never ending beauty. RARRRRRR!

10: Wesley Crusher - Aside from Wesley and I getting married about a hundred times, in my dreams, when I was between the ages of six and ten, I loved his go getter attitude. He had more skill with Engineering than almost anyone else in the crew. A 17 year old that created a new species of mechano life. His accomplishments speak for themselves.

1: Captain James T. Kirk- A real man who was not afraid to lead his troops into battle, who could stare down everything from a Klingon to an alien computer and never blink an eye, and who could conquer the heart and body of any woman, green or not. Best captain by far.

2: Dr. Leonard H. McCoy- Irrascible country doctor who doesn't take crap from anyone, stares down Khan holding a knife at his throat without flinching, but who also has a great bedside manner and compassion for anyone in need of medical attention.

3: Commander Montgomery Scott- Best engineer in the history of the fleet, and can drink anyone under the table.

4: Q- God of mischief who is better than you, smarter than you, and isn't afraid to show it. His reparte with Picard always made for interesting episodes with Q being the irrepressible mischief maker and rule breaker to Picards straight-laced by-the-book attitude. Favorite episode: Deja Q.

5: Commander William T. Riker- The true captain of the Enterprise-D. Not afraid to lead men into battle or do what was necessary, he brought back many an away team and even saved the ship and the Earth from Picard in Borg form.  Looks better with the beard than without.

6: Lt. Commander Data- Symbol of child-like innocence and wonder. His ability to view situations from the view point of an inexperienced android made for many interesting episodes and B-stories, with his attempts to be more human always adding a bit of humor to the situation. (Nod to sreadthis: "When I stroke the beard thusly, do I not appear more intellectual?"

7: Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III- The best character on "Enterprise" hands down. Full of southern charm and charisma as well as the ability to keep that dinky ship running without starbases or any chance to resupply, especially while in The Expanse. Definitely not afraid to speak his mind to his captain, but knew when it was time to back off and simply obey the order or simply ignore it and go ahead anyway, regardless of the consequences.

8: Tribbles- They're cute and they hate Klingons. Enough said.

9: Porthos, Captain Archers prize Beagle- Loyal friend of the captain always ready to play fetch or have his belly rubbed. Also a cheese fiend, just like me. Since watching Enterprise, I want nothing more than to have a Beagle that looks exactly like Porthos. He's the cutest dog ever!

10: Khan Noonien Singh- Kirk's ultimate nemesis and the greatest villain he ever had to face. Intelligent (but not experienced), crafty, strong, with a horde of supermen at his command, and played to perfection by the great Ricardo Montalban. Welcoooome......to Ceti Alpha 5.

Ahh, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold....in space.

3.)Dr. McCoy- He had a southern style around him that I agreed with

Worf, he is simply the man.

Sulu, superb pilot, swordsman, and captain, a good combo.

Counselor Troi, telepathy and gorgeous, you can't go wrong.

Bones, tough as nails, only he would mouth off to "god"! Way to go Bones!

Scotty, the miracle worker, he could fix it or he'd get out and push.

Tasha Yar, she gave her life for the fleet not once but twice, hard to top that.

Spock, the character is perhaps the very core of the Trek universe, he set the standard for all Vulcans to follow.

Seven of Nine, best thing to happen to the franchise since the invention of the Tribble, her struggle to regain her humanity was great to watch.

Chakotay, mystic and all around tough guy, also one of the only humans in the series ever to display any kind of mental powers, such as his vision quests.

Captain Picard, possibly the best all around captain in Star Trek.

Quark, the greedy Ferengi who sometimes surprises us by doing something good.

That's eleven, there are many more greats, hard to pick just ten.

Never drink with your enemies! Well, maybe just one round...

1. Data; very interesting character and it was great to see him try and learn human idiosyncrasies

2. Jean-Luc Picard; IMO the best starship captain to date.

3. Garak; His role in "In the Pale Moonlight" cemented him as one of my favourite characters and he was the ultimate black sheep.

4. EMH Doctor; Such a rich and versatile character.. it was good to see him struggle to become more independent

5. Worf; Tough and honourable, need I say more.

6. Benjamin Sisko; Probably a bit biased because I liked DS9 so much but again he was a strong leader and no afraid to get his hands dirty.

7. Seven Of Nine; Everyones favourite Borg, she took an interesting journey trying to reclaim her humanity and leave the collective.

8. Geordi Laforge; All round nice guy and great engineer.

9. Q; Omnipitent, arrogant and happy to do whatever he pleases.

10. Trip; Loved the southern accent and he was incredibly loyal to Archer.

Compressing my list to only ten characters was more difficult than I thought it would be! It may seem that my list is unreasonably biased toward Deep Space Nine's cast. That may be true. However, I really believe that DS9 had the most diverse array of memorable and multi-faceted characters to ever inhabit the Star Trek universe. Though some on this list were recurring characters and only appeared in two dozen episodes, I'm sure you'd agree that they made a big impression regardless of their limited screen time. My top ten favorite Star Trek characters are as follows:

1) Kira Nerys

2) Elim Garak

3) Odo

4) Benjamin Sisko

5) Jean-Luc Picard

6) Damar

7) Weyoun

8) Spock

9) Leonard McCoy

10) Nog

Except for #1 these are not in any particular order.

First and foremost my #1 has to be Dukat. When he is not on screen I am wishing he was. Was there ever a better villian? Was there ever someone better at being bad? I think not.

2. Data - I have loved Data my whole life and that will never change.

3. Jean Luc Picard - No words needed.

4. Jadzia Dax - She's a good time girl, and I love good time girls.

5. Guinan - I love Whoopi Goldberg. I love that Guinan is wise and patient, I love her personalilty overall.

6. Weyoun - I LOVE Weyoun.

7. Lwaxana Troi - Daughter of the Fifth House, Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed. Need I say more?

8. Dr. Beverly Crusher - I love Beverly so much. She's so beautiful and awesome.

9. Wesley Crusher - I don't see why people hate him. To me, he is the awesomest kid that ever lived.

10. Elim Garrak - I love Garrak so much. Excellent character, never boring.

And there will be 11 because I can't leave out General Martok. He is awesome!

Honorable mentions:

The Doctor (Voyager)

Q - Although he's great, not great enough to me to beat out the others on my list

Kira - The longer DS9 went on, the more I got to like her.

Odo - Ditto for Odo

Quark - Quark is awesome.

Damar - I really like Damar, especially at the end. He became the hero that Cardassia deserved. "For Cardassia!" How can you not love that?

William T. Riker - I don't think words are necessary for him either.

And last but certainly not least (remember, no particular order) there is Captain Janeway. She is a really good character. I didn't think I would like her, but I do.

Well, that's a hard one. In no particular order:

1) Picard - Well, he's Picard!

2) Spock - Again, no words needed.

3) The Doctor - I really like his character. He's funny, and pretty cool.

4) Jadzia - I like that she is a real working woman, not just some character to attract audiences. She always has something meaningful to say, but is still a lot of fun.

5) Data - Who doesn't like him?

6) Guinan - I think she's really underated. Her character is brilliant, she's observant and smart, and has a big gun under her bar.

7) Garak - He's not always my favorite person, but I think his character is brilliant, also.

8) Riker - I don't really know why I like him. I guess he's just awesome.

9) Kira - I think we can all agree she was pretty cool.

10) Scotty - He's just a cool and funny guy.

There are a lot of other great ones, like Shran, Weyoun, Quark, Odo, Janeway, Sisko, Seven, and of course, Kirk, But since you limited us to 10, those are the first ones I thought of.

Anyone else notice DS9 had more good characters than the other serieses?

1. Gul Dukat - Evil and hillarious! Best villain in Star Trek

2. Garak - Clever, dangerous, and hillarious.

3. Data - A great officer and character. Loved the character growth.

4. Picard - His uncompromising principals. The definition of a leader. Someone like Picard would make a good president.

5. Quark- A good hearted scoundrel. Someone you would want to hang out with.

6. Kirk - The description of Integrity. Won't give up.

7. EMH Doctor - Love his personality. Fighting for his rights.

8. Spock - Very logical, but at the same time shows dedication to his friends.

9. Weyoun -  A very slimey, but otherwise hillarious villain.

10. Odo - Kind of like a cross between Worf and Spock. He's logical but he has a code. Love the character growth.

Holy crap, I disagree with 90% of this list. And, to have no TOS characters on a Top 10 list...seriously?
