JK1701, is it true what Shatner said? If so, that is hilarious!  If I were on the set of 'Star Trek', I would have loved him. Reading such stories and watching the bloopers, he seemed like a genuinely funny and easygoing guy. He has an ego, sure, but who doesn't? No reason for cast members to hate him. To be annoyed with him, maybe, but not to hate him.

You should read Star Trek Memories by William Shatner. It's got all sorts of interesting stories in it, that being just one of them. I've heard he's supremely egotistical, even to the point of counting lines to make sure Nimoy didn't have more than him in any episode of the show (don't know if that one is true or not), but you never really know someone until you meet them and get to spend time with them, which unfortunately, I never will. lol

Ahh, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold....in space.

Indeed. I believe that William Shatner is a much better guy than most people give him credit for. Oftentimes, ego is simply a cover-up to hide an insecure personality.

True. And he's so well known for being "himself" that the egotistical personality may be an act in and of itself.

Welcome aboard! You should love it here. From TOS, Trouble with Tribbles was always a favorite, you have Scotty fighting with the Klingons because they called his ship  a garbage scow, and of course, the Tribbles themselves, which while cute, did have a way of taking over a place. Also, some people, like Mr Worf, are terribly allergic to them.

Never drink with your enemies! Well, maybe just one round...

Welcome, BeamMeUpTOS! I'm new here too. Spock is my favorite Star Trek character, and I'm still in the process of watching the TOS episodes for the first time (it's great fun!) My husband likes TNG best, so we watch that one too. My favorite character from that one is like Spock's opposite: Deanna Troi. But I'll probably always be partial to TOS!

Devil in the Dark...I remember thinking, it takes some serious creativity to build an entire episode around silicone bouncy balls. Or a low budget. Either way, that's some skill.

I see someone recommended the book "Star Trek Memories" by William Shatner. I haven't read that one, but I have read "I Am Spock" by Leonard Nimoy, and it has a lot of those behind-the-scenes funny stories too.

Hi everyone! I'm new here too. I just started watching TOS, and haven't seen any of the other series yet, but I am so blown away by TOS that I can't imagine what might be in store. Prior to TOS, I never enjoyed sci-fi because it was always full of technobabble and dystopian. One month later, watching a TOS episode after work is the highlight of my day!

My favorite character was originally McCoy, but he's so often abused in the name of comic relief that I favor Kirk now instead. Poor McCoy. If they needed someone to fall behind, get abducted, cause a crisis, the good doctor was always the first pick. Heck, McCoy almost caused Hitler to win WWII (see The City on the Edge of Forever). Reminds me of Dr. Watson to Sherlock Holmes, actually.

But I digress! I'm very excited to be here, and hope to have many fun and fascinating discussions. Forgive the cliche, but live long and prosper, everyone!

BeamMeUpTOS,

Welcome to Starfleet. I'm new here to but a veteran to ST n my fave series is also the OS. I have all the DVDs n also of Riverboat, which u should see also, which has many parallels with ST, not least of which is the name of the ship. And the last episode of Riverboat starred Jeanne Bal n DeForest Kelley n the 1st episode of ST starred Jeanne Bal n DeForest Kelley. You should probably also see Rocky Jones, Space Ranger, which may have been an inspiration for ST.

Did u know Janos Prohaska played the horta n also 2 other monsters on ST n went on to do the cooky bear on the Andy Williams Show? Also, the writer for The Enemy Within was Sean Penn's father. And Wm. Shatner may have encountered  space aliens in real life (according to biographer Dennis Hauck).

I'm with u on the Captcha junk--very annoying n irritating, the words r hard to make out, sometimes they don,t work, n this is the only site I know of where u have to do it for every message, I also have to log in every time, n the signatures r so small u have trouble seeing them.

We will not cease from exploration, And the end of our exploring Will be to arrive where we started, And know the place for the 1st time. T.S. Eliot, The Gidding
