Neelix wasn't my favorite character but I could see how is was an important character on Voyager. There were times when I thought he was annoying, and even a bit meddlesome at times. But he was also a good friend and morale officer for everyone on board. He made a great babysitter for Neomi and the other borg children, and he helped 7 of 9 adjust after she joined the crew. But he still bugged the hell out of me.
With this said...I will not deny crying in the episode where he left Voyager to be with his own people. I am not ashamed for shedding tears at the end of that episode. And they weren't happy tears that he was finally leaving either. They were heart felt tears. I think the writers made the right decision to leave him in the Delta Q.
I confessed...now who else cried when Neelix left Voyager?

I must be honest, I had tears in my eyes, and i really was touched. I was a bit dissapointed at how the crew said goodbye, no party or tears, only a row of crewman. I still think it really was a pity he left, he would have been a great add to the crew for the voyage home. I still wonder why he wasn't in endgame, i mean with the tachyon beam they could contact him, couldn't they? I still wonder, since he is a starfleet officer as admiral, he has a combadge, but how the hell is he going to get a new one and the update (the allgood update)? Did he get a replicator?
