To be honest, Cumberbatch will probably be the best thing about the movie.

Have been a massive fan of Trek all my life and so wanted to like the rebooted J.J. Abrams vision, as I love his other stuff especially Fringe.

However, I can't. Have tried, but can't. Don't like the "new" character traits (McCoy's not too bad). And Spock kissing Uhura!?!

But, you never know, I dare say there were many people who echoed my sentiments after The Motion Picture only to be in rapture after The Wrath Of Khan - fingers crossed history will repeat itself......

I'm hoping for a new villian. However an attempt to recreat e a familiar character would give fodder for the bords....

Personally, I hope it's a completely new villain, like Nero. I realize they set up an alternate timeline so that they wouldn't have to maintain any sort of continuity with the series, but to start taking villains from the series and remaking them in this new universe would be a terrible mistake. That said, I can't wait for the movie! It's gonna be awesome, either way.

No, there has been some discussion that Cumberbatch might be Gary Mitchell, Kirk's buddy from the Academy. 

The great question is, if Kirk is screwed up in this timeline, who's to say that Gary isn't even more screwed up, in an evil and bad way?
