The planets will not be aligned. Even if they were, it wouldn't be the first time. It occurred in 2009.

Here's three reasons the 2012 doomsday theory is crap:
- the planets aren't going to align, and even if they were, it wouldn't do anything
- the Mayans couldn't predict their own demise; what makes you think they can predict that of the Earth?
- it says right in the Bible that we won't see the apocalypse coming
Don't be like the people who blindly followed Harold Camping last year. Use common sense before jumping to conclusions.

The Mayan Prophecy states that the world as we know it will change (not be destroyed) on December 21, 2012.
This particular theory, though, has been around for more than 5,000 years. It began when the ancient Mayans plotted our position in the Milky Way and launched the Mayan calendar. However, the astrological prediction has since been exaggerated and redefined by the media.
The Mayans believed and prophecized that in the year 1999 AD, mankind would have 13 years to recognize our own patterns of self destruction. Then, starting December 21, 2012, marking a major (not total) planetary alignment in our solar system, our entire lives would be tested and only those most in touch with their spiritual sides would survive. They claim a natural or man-made disaster will occur (although no-one can agree on the exact nature and date of the event) tearing apart the civilized world and taking us back to hunter-gatherer days or worse.
The prophecy is not unlike the Judgement Days told about in the Bible Revelations as well as the predictions from Nostradamus for the first part of the 21st century. These latter two also describe a space journey led by two warriors of Heaven to rescue the innocent and faithful that bring them to a "new Earth" or planet where peace and harmony shall reign for over a thousand years. A new planet and star system would explain the need for a new calender.
In any case, December 21st 2012 is a turning point, and if 1999 marks a point for the turning then perhaps so does 13 years after or 2025. I doubt anything picturesque or explosive will happen on December 21, 2012, other than the planetary alignment, but I do know for a fact that big changes are going to take place with mankind as our society crumbles around us. Just take a look around. Hundreds of millions are dying and suffering each year while others are working more and more while a few are wealthier than ever before. Many will die quick. Many will suffer slowly. Many will be rewarded. However it is a process that is supposed to take place around this time over two or three decades. I believe this turning point symbolizes a change of "tide" where the first shall be the last and the last shall be the first, generally speaking. You get the idea...

I've survived Y2K, Justin Bieber, and the Twilight saga. 2012, bring it on!
BTW, the end of the world is the 21st, Winter Solstice, not the 24th, Christmas Eve.
Anyway the Mayans had 3 calenders, one of which lasted 52 years long, so they could track historical events. The reason that it was 52 years is because that was the average lifespan of people back then. The Mayans decided to create a long cycle calender, which lasted 5,126 years. That was put into place 5,126 years ago. Also, it's not completley accurate, as they thought an asteroid was Venus, which set them back 2 months.
What's the point of me saying all of this?
The solstice is just another New Years Eve, but with a different calender.
But, I still think it's fun saying the world's gonna end.
On the 21st I'll be having a 'Mayan Long Cycle New Years Eve' celebration.
Anyway, Kirk Wannabe out.
Annie Lennox traveled the seven seas. I, on the other hand, have traveled all 139 seas.

I'll be drinking Scotch on 12-21-2012, much the same as any other night.

Look, some of you stop the foolish humor, we need to appeal to a higher power, A Creator or God, when the Planets are in a peculiar celestial position What could happen ? Do any of you realize there are comets and asteroids out there and if one of them smashes on Earth that's it, One of the reason is Jupiters gravity suck most of the traveling comets in our Solar System, but what if one got through, I think there is a higher power that governs activity in our Solar system or else one of those Asteroids would had destroyed us long time ago.2012 is in Gods hands..Who agrees ?

Oh, I agree about that (except for the "foolish humor" part). I just don't think that it's going to happen in 12/21/2012.
If an asteroid was going to hit us on that date, I think somebody would have noticed it by now.
The Bible says that when the world does come to an end, nobody will see it coming. If that's accurate, how did the Mayans find out?

Here's to Foolish Humour! BRINGITON!
Only thing to "prepare" for the end of 2012 is to figure out what I want to do in 2013. (Got my eyes on a writing course in Wellington... We'll see.)

The prophecy of John in the Revelation said something simelar to Nostredamus. In which it was predicted that we've a WW 3 either some type of apocalpyse. I think he ment that mankind has new energy sources. Let's face it the ongoing polution of our planet as well as stripmineing & cutting down the rainforests isn't a sign of evolved human beings.
As all good things come to an end alike all suns our one will go nova in lots of years (for aeons). For the rumor of another planet colliding with the world according to NASA it's still nonsense. If anyone who believes this will have the balls to commit suicide before it's "over"?

I remember hearing that our sun is too small to go nova -- but it will eventually run out of fuel, expand, and die. We'll all be long dead before that happens.
The greatest danger to humanity I think is to be so paranoid about whatever potential disaster might kill us, that we forget to live before that time.

Otakujo, I welcome your wise input..But, I don't think man is paranoid but concern, I just find it odd that with all the comets and asteroids out there, a large one hasn't come and devestated Earth in a Million years, many times life on Earth could had been exterminated, I think some type of intervention prevented this..Real science has confirm the alignment of the Planets so whatever happens is meant to happen, ..
And if we all make it through, good luck at Wellington, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Take a look at exactly where the planet are right now. Keeping in mind the fact that it takes years for each of the outter planets to complete just one quarter of their orbits, ask yourself it you really think they can be in a position of alignment six months from now? You'll see that there is simply no way for them to be aligned by that time.
