I see lots of people say this, but I don't see anywhere or anyone who has ever treated me like an outcast because I like Star Trek. I do not see it as any kind of stigma at all. If anything, people usually think it's cool when they find out I'm into Star Trek.
|
I agree. I have never been treated differently because I like Trek. Or sci fi in general. Some of my friends may not understand it but they have never treated me differently. It's more of a bonding thing when you see someone or get a reference from Trek in an unexpected place

"sometimes, i feel frustrated when no one responce my comments (did i say something wrong?)"
No, sometimes there just aren't people around to comment. Other times, there is nothing in what somebody has typed to provoke a response, or somebody else has posted something that grabs the attention.
It is all very arbitrary. What one person finds interesting, another finds boring. What inspires one person to respond is dull to another person. So when you type something, it is very much the luck of the draw as to whether people are going to respond to you, going to respond to somebody else, or not going to respond at all.

I don't have very clear recollections of my initial experiences on this board, but I don't think many people were particularly mean at that point. Mind you this place does cycle through certain phases, or perhaps it is that people are more paranoid round here (about duals, trolls and newbies) than they were. Glad not to have been a newbie at one of the worse times.

Thanks for the compliments kind sir (Correct me if I'm wrong about your gender.) I got "Lady" because lady was a formal title to address a woman of nobility or wealth in the Medieval-Victorian era in which I do enjoy learning about. As for the "Data" part of my name I used it because Data is my favorite character.
I love your username as well Is it Japanese?

I've heard that before but the thing is I have never been treated bad because of my interest in Star Trek by my friends (even though the majority of my friends are not Star Trek fans.) nor anyone in general.

I don't think it's a matter of offending anyone (at least in your situation) It just depends if someone on here is interested in your comments to reply to you or not.

Some people are outright intolerant of Trek and all things Sci-Fi, but Trek especially.

I honestly don't understand why people are against Star Trek or anything Sci-fi. It's not like it's done anything bad to society in order for it to be hated. In fact Star Trek has inspired people to become astronauts or work in the science field.

Thank-you too for the compliment and although Ayko does ring a little Japanese it is not, but it is meant to be international. It is as a long story but the short version is that it comes from my military days where I worked on a special research project that had to do with the eyes and my military brother suggested Aye as in Aye Aye Captain since I was leading the project and a Trek fan. I added the ko because it is the last part of my old nickname I cannot use anymore but wanted to keep alive, at least in part, if you get my meaning. Hence Ayko, original and cool.
LadyData appeals to me because I too love androids/cyborgs and I am writing a sci-fi story about a guy who creates a Data like android but female, named Susanna after his wife and resembling her who he misses since she died. He does such a good job that Susanna becomes sentient and falls in love with her creator. Later he has an accident and they try to transfer his conscience into a male android likeness of himself. The story then gets complicated, suspenseful and, well, you will just have to wait...
In any case a pleasure meeting you.
I always like a challenging challenge.

thank you someone who finally said it I know more people GOOD TREKKIES/TREKKERS who have left this sight simply because of the rudness of certain people on here who have a major superiority complex! It got under my skin so very much that I left and I have a huge tolerence for stupidity and illogical people, but it simply got out of hand here. We talk of being the most excepting fans in the world but when it comes to our own people we discriminate based upon a number of posts on a website... NOW who's illogical.

there did used to be a culture of not accepting anyone new because they might not be new. I didn't realize it was still going on much. You never know when some new person is going to walk in with some brilliant analysis of star trek to share.
