Solitons' inherent stability make long-distance transmission possible without the use of repeaters (boosters) and could potentially double transmission capacity as well!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soliton

A 2005 article in an electrical engineering journal says that Professors Martin Stratmann and Fedor Mitschke, of Rostock University (Germany) have shown that non-dissipating soliton waves can be used to encode digital optics, doubling the amount of infomation an optical fiber could carry.

The power of a soliton-composed wave, they say, actually increases over distance, so relays may not be needed!

By the end of 2005, the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation "reported successfully sending a stream of solitons down a 1 million-km fiber-optic cable at 40 Gbits/s with no repeaters, and they have also produced both time-division and wavelength-division multiplexing systems, for optical soliton communications."

So, I think solitons could be used for subspace relay beacons or relay stations.

Here are some further technological developments for using solitons for long-distance transmissions:

Would you consider Dark Matter as sub-space as it is there but it isn't or do you consider the space that we haven't even discovered yet full of particles smaller and harder to detect that comprise Dark Matter as being sub-space?

That is a good question, dryson. The articles above talked about 3 solitons' being connected, one or two of which are negative.  (I wssn't sure about whether it was actually an absence of a soliton.)

Personally, I think subspace is really a higher space dimension (e.g., the fourth or fifth).  I hadn't thought about its possible composition.  I had just imagined it as being "empty" space, but it might consist of small particles.

Gives yoiu a lot to think about, doesn't it?
