Hi all.
Being that most Trek fans here work in the sciences, are there any here that use an RPN-based HP calculator?

Absolutely!!! I used my dad's HP calculator when I was a kid and bought myself an HP-15C when I got into junior high - I still have it and it works great about 30 years later.

I used to use (and program) Apple products.... but then I grew up...
Seriously.... Apple has changed for the better and has gotten a lot better. I just haven't decided to change. (Plus, you pay a lot of money for the name.)

>THAT'S the truth, for sure! Talk about sticker shock! They're still coming up with most of the latest innovations though, don't you think?

In some areas, yea, they've got a lot of new personal devices and eye candy that people like. As an IT Director, I look at things a lot differently than just a home user. But as I tell people - find what works for them.

I had previously a HP keyboard still now a Microsoft one which works on the USB device, but who cares? My Officejet 4500 from HP is the most awesome picture-printer in lots of time, because the ink-cartridges are cheap for colored faxes, scanns & such copies or simple documents.

Fantastic choice. Quite the extraordinary model with almost everything,--Solve, Integrate, Matrices and even Complex Number functionality. Keep it in good condition!
And then later, its successor, the 42S incorporates the legendary HP-41CV to complement all the 15C has to offer.

Actually, I almost bought a HP-48 when I was in the military and going to night school, but just couldn't justify it.
My batteries died on the 15C.... gotta go down and buy some.

Well, according to the HP-12C page on The Musum of HP Calculators ( http://www.hpmuseum.org/hp12c.htm ), the longest a Voyager series calculator has gone on a single set of batteries is 22 years. Read and enjoy.

22 years??? Wow.. Doesn't sound like they used the calculator much. I still use my calculator and have to replace the batteries every two years or so.
