I think the boards should have an ignore user button so when some sad people go on some weird crusade we don't have to look at their stuff at all.

I agree that there should be an ingnore function, but apparently Admin doesn't think that would be a good optiion

They have that function on the IMDB and it is so useful. I also think that because of it you have a lot less crazy folk. I only have like 4 people ignored there and have been on since 2006. It really is a good deterrent since people know eventually their spam and whatnot will be totally ignored.

I joined IMDB on and off. All in all its been a while, the last time I went on someone came out of the wood work and started accusing me of being someone else; he started getting rude and violent; so I reported him and put him on ignore. I haven't been on that site ever since.

Its ok for people to have a bad day, that is not an issue but when it gets personal and people start wanting other memebers to choose sides it gets to the point that its childish. I am somewhat of an attention seeker, I think we all have that quality but its overly done on this site.

A good site listens to its members wheather they agree or not. This site has improved a lot but also has changed a lot as well. Give it time and maybe the big guy or gal might reconsider.

Imagine if we have an ignore feature yesterday. 100s of pages of "Ha!" and "asdf" and we wouldn't have seen any of it. Well, once we put them on the ignore list, anyways.

Of course, in this case that wouldn't have helped much. "coolguy123" was obviously a DDOS scriptbot account (there's no other way anyone could've posted that many times within a minute on one boards, never mind on every board), so even if we couldn't see his posts, they still would've overflowed the servers.

What about an option to simply not see their banner pics?  Some of those are particularly unpleasant to look at.

I guess that's why they added the CAPTCHA. I dislike ignoring people, how about a "mute user button" Not sure the difference, but I'd hate to be ignored lol.

Until the Admins add this function, I just have my "ignore" list and skip over those people who've chosen to act irresponsibly (usually by continuously showing a lack of integrity here on the forums.)

It'd be nice, but... well I'm beginning to think the folks upstairs here aren't going out of their way to make this community user friendly.

By the way... seems at least one spambot can beat the caption poster unless this latest guy is just REAL persistant. Seems another justification for this features that many message boards enjoy.

Or just remove the caption thing. Limit each person to 10 posts/1 created topic an hour. That wouldn't be excessive at all.

10 posts an hour!

I'd say just put a limit on time between posts.

though if they have a program doing this that can beat the captcha I don't think there is anything they can do to stop it.

Some people post more than 10 posts an hour in the same thread just because there's an active conversation.

There are ways to put logic to it through heuristics. Examples:

 - Posts exactly so much time apart.

 - Posts that are identical or very similar.

 - So many posts in 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, etc...  The more consistency and the more of them over time, the more likely it's a spammer - especially automated.

I hope I'm not on this list for what I did a while back. If so, I have already said I was sorry.
