Both Q factions would join forces to destroy the upstart mortals. Remember, despite the weapons, I bet a Q could destroy them all with a thought.

yeah but why didn't a Q disarm them all with a thought in the episode then?
|
Because, they were also dealing with the other Q.
they couldnt just put all their attention on ther humans while they were still at war.

They wouldn't need to put all of their attention on the humans in order to stop them if they were Q i should think. |
they sure would, since not only were they fighting humans with Q tech, but they had the other Q to worry about.
Think of this senerio
Q establishement fighting from the center of the room.
to the right they have humans with Q tech/weapons to deal weith
to the left and behind they have renagae Q coming at them.
even a split secon to eliminate the humasns leaves them oprn to attack from the renagade Q's.

This episode really summed up what I didn't like about Voyager. Their tendency to take a threating antagonist, in this instance the Q, and instead of having the heroes outwit their enemies they just water them down until they're non-threatening enough that our heroes can deal with them. They did this with the Borg too.
But to the point raised, I'd have to say a definite no. They could not destroy the Continium. Sure they could have killed all those present there, but I doubt very much that every member of the Q was at that one little skirmish. The main Q and the redheaded Q both got out easy enough afterall.
While I could picture Janeway contemplating the genocide of the Q, it wouldn't go over well with the audience or the vaunted Federation values either. But if she did order the slaughter, it would only take one Q to get away, which is easy enough given the rate of fire those weapons had, or simply one not to have been there. Then when the Voyager crew is back in their universe without the Q-Killing muzzle loaders, they're snapped(literally) out of existence.

I dont exactly recall that scene, but remember, we were seeing what the Voyager crew precieved.
theres a good chance events happened much faster and that the Q weapons work on thought.

It would be inconvienent to the plot, besides that skirmish was projected as the American civil war so that the humans could understand what was going on and have the ability to relate to it. In reality the battle would not involve weapons and such but the powers of Q put to the very limit, something which only the Q can comprehend and deal with ( if you know what i mean )

While the crew of Voyager tends to live to fight another day, I doubt they would destroy the entire continuum, though armed with the Q weapons they could inflict heavy casualties or force the Q to release them by threatening them with said weapons.
