[quote]Yesterday we reported new details, especially about extras, for CBS/Paramount's upcoming July 24th Blu-ray Disc release of Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 1. The one piece of info we didn't have at the time, however, was pricing...a critical piece of info for most fans who are wondering if they will double-dip and upgrade to this high-def version of the show! Now we've got some info for you about the cost!

Longtime online seller, one of our affiliate retail partners (i.e., buying from them through the links we provide helps to support our site) has begun listing Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 1 for pre-order, and as of this writing their discounted cost to you is just $79.99 (plus shipping, etc.). The list price they display is $118.00 SRP...which may or may not match the SRP that other sellers (such as Amazon) display later on, when those organizations begin accepting pre-orders. And it's a certainly good deal, with the discounted price amounting to just a little over thirteen dollars per disc for this 6-disc Blu-ray set...and each disc contains more running time than any theatrical film would! For me, it's a sale...I've got the recent "sampler" Blu-ray release titled "The Next Level," and the quality is incredible. So at this kind of price for the season sets, the price is right as far as I'm concerned. If you agree, you can pre-order from DVDEmpire using the button link below!

Nothing on Amazon or other websites yet just yet...

Star Trek: The Next Generation - New Extras, Final Box Art and Promo Theater Screenings for Blu 'Season 1'
6-BD set will be in stores with HD TNG on July 24th!
Posted by David Lambert

Set in the 24th century, the exploits of the U.S.S. Enterprise continue as it explores the universe, seeking new life and new worlds. 2012 marks the 25th Anniversary of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION! STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION makes its full-season debut in spectacular high-def with THE FIRST SEASON on Blu-ray featuring all 25 first season episodes, brilliantly retransferred from original film elements into Hi-Def (NOTE: 2 seconds of the original film elements for the episode "We'll Always Have Paris" have not been located and thus have been upconverted from Standard Definition videotape) and amazing visual effects, painstakingly re-created from these original film elements.
CBS Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment have today re-confirmed the previous reports that July 24th will see the release of Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 1 on high-def Blu-ray Disc format. To promote this release, studio sources say that on Monday July 23rd, the day before the street date of this set, there will be a theatrical screening event at approximatly 600 theaters, located in 49 U.S. markets. The screening will include 2 high-definition Season 1 episodes, "Where No One Has Gone Before" and "Datalore," along with behind-the-scenes extras! This screening will be promoted online, via social media, mobile, and in-theater...look for it!

On the Blu-ray Discs themselves, you'll get "a wealth of bonus material," including the following items listed by the studio to retailers:
Over 95 minutes of brand-new documentaries featuring all new cast and crew interviews:
ENERGIZED: Taking The Next Generation To The Next Level
STARDATE REVISITED: The Origin Of Star Trek: The Next Generation
Never-before-released on DVD archival launch footage
Original episodic promos
Featurettes from DVD release (Mission Logs and more)
7.1 DTS HD-master audio and original Stereo Surround audio!

This 6-disc set with 25 episodes includes guest appearances by DeForest Kelley, John de Lancie, Michael Bell, a "pre-Chief-O'Brien" Colm Meaney, Armin Shimerman, Stanley Kamel, Eric Menyuk, Marc Alaimo, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, Carel Struycken, William Boyett, Michael Pataki, Jerry Hardin, Brenda Strong, Ward Costello, Robert Ito, Vincent Schiavelli, Merritt Butrick, Judson Scott, Michelle Phillips, Henry Darrow, Peter Mark Richman, Gracie Harrison and Leon Rippy.

In our previous reports we showed package art taken from the trailer found on the first Blu-ray TNG release, called "The Next Level," but our studio contacts informed us that it was an early image and could be subject to change. Today the studio provided finalized artwork for the upcoming Season 1 BD set, and it looks like nothing has changed after all. Here's the new studio-supplied packaging picture for you. We still don't have pricing yet, but we hope to update with with that information soon!
