Dressing up is the best part! Really. It's the one place where you can cosplay and not have people giving you strange looks.

When I went to my first convention, I didn't dress up.  It was fun to see all of the costumes, though!  Then for my second convention, I dressed up in costume and entered the costume contest.  Didn't win, not even close, but it was such a blast!!  One gal was a Scottish Vulcan, she was really nice, and one guy was supposed to be a Vulcan traveler and he had a gong, rainstick and one other thing.  Of course there were Klingons, male and female, a couple Borg, a little girl and one adult.  There were even two, a guy and a gal, that were dressed up as The Rocketter and they were really cool!

If you can, and are okay with it, then go ahead and dress up!  You don't need to be fancy to have fun!  Of course when I first went was before internet was as popular as it is now so I was relying mostly on Starlog magazine for my information.

I've never been to a Sci-Fi Con.  But if I did decide to go, I would not dress up.  Just not into it, except for Halloween.

I plan to get some type of costume this year and go to a convention, haven't been in ages, and I missed the big ceremony for Chekov on the walk of fame, so I am determined to get a cool costume and wear it.

Even wearing a Star Trek shirt is alright with me. Today while I was on campus, 5 people complimented on my Mr.Data shirt

Cool, xXLadyDtaXx!

Really, it's basically what one is comfortable doing.  I had fun at both cons I went to, although I met some really neat people at the costume contest

I have never gotten to go to a convention, unfortunately, but someday, when I get to, I'm going to buy and wear a costume. Probably something simple, like a TOS uniform or something like that, but definitely dressing up. two or three years ago, we had a costume Christmas party for the youth group at my church and I spent a ridiculous amount of money coming up with an Anakin Skywalker costume. It turned out fantastic! The problem is, I still have it, but have nowhere to wear it now. lol

Ahh, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold....in space.
