Perhaps this question has already been answered, but has Starfleet--or the United Federation of Planets--collected seeds or DNA of every known species in the Federation (and perhaps from other places as well) and preserved them in one or more impenetrable vaults, perhaps on widely separated planets?

If not, they might consider doing so, in case an invader like the Crystalline Entity or the Borg obliterate most of the Federation settlements, in some future conflict.
