Saw that the socialists in France want to raise taxes to 75% on the "rich"... what's next, the guillotine?

Yep.... What's even worse is when some of us that actually do study history and bring things up, we're attacked with lies and hatred.

How can anyone who watches Star Trek think capitalism is the best system? Or that it's going to last forever? The show is set in a socialist utopia where humans have eliminated greed, poverty, war, famine, etc. The only capitalist species is the Ferengi and they are just comedic relief.

Don't be a Ferengi, BamBam.

Star Trek CAN"T exist without freedom (which includes capitalism.)

History proves over and over that socialism (communism/Marxism) or whatever label you want to use to force tyranny on others doesn't work - only freedom does.  Freedom is always the answer.

Why do you think that our Founding Fathers studied many governments throughout thousands of years of history? This is exactly why the USA was created the way it was - big government means little people, so the USA was created with small government so the people can have as much freedom as possible.

If Star Trek is a socialist utopia, why show capitalist entreprenuerism in The Trouble with Tribbles? Why does the Federation engage in war? Why do people buy things with credits? What is a credit? Isn't it money? Isn't Harry Mudd just trying to make a buck? Clearly this socialist utopia isn't as great as advertised (although I love the show).

I agree that Star Trek clearly includes capitalism within its world. However, Captain Kirk and company clearly work for a quasi-military organization.  Anybody who has ever had ID privileges in the military can appreciate that it has the attributres of a socialist organization. The commisary, PX, housing, and system of medical care are essentailly socialist, although bulk procurements may come from the private sector. I think that is why a lot of people conclude that Star Trek's future is socialist.

On a different note, it gets me how some insist on bringing forth all sorts of lies, distortions, internal contradictions, and mis-leading statements, and then complain that others are lying when these flaws are pointed out to them.

Picard said it best in First Contact. Humans of the future are no longer driven by accumulation of wealth. They all work for the betterment of the species. Even in the Enterprise series, long before replicators, humans had already eliminated poverty and war. Credits are used in trade with other species, mostly non-Federation species, but humans no longer exploit their own kind for financial gain.

Star Fleet is a quasi-military organization but not all humans work for Star Fleet and those that do aren't forced into it. The Federation doesn't go around starting wars or imposing it's will on other species.
