Look.. Let's face it...Michelle Forbes had presence..I was watching Battlestar Galactica Razor and Pegasus she was on it and WOW WOW, what a tough female, she really knew how to set people right, on Ds9 Kira came off as a bit whiney sometimes, like a fly on Sisko's neck, I'd bet Ro Laren would stand up to Sisko and run rings around him, she would had made a better XO than Kira I bet..Opinions.

I like Ro a lot (I like them both actually) and think she would have been good on DS9. Still, Kira was also a very good (tough) character and she gave DS9 something that Ro could not have done -- which was a non-Starfleet perspective. For that reason I think that having her on the show was a good move.

Also Ro was an Ensign -- she would not have been first officer.

Michelle Forbes was considert to be on DS9 either she didn't take the role, because she wanted to do something else.

I don't like Ro, but she was much more dynamic than Kira.  Kira was more level-headed, but a bit boring.

In some of the post-DS9 books, the two of them work together, after the Bajoran Government took charge of DS9.

I liked Kira on DS9 and I think she was a good character, she was tough when she had to be. But still I think it would've been interesting if they'd had Ro Laren on a couple of episodes. But yeah I've also read that Michelle Forbes wasn't interested in playing the character anymore and wanted to do different roles.

Hello all, I hve been away for a long time, I have been going through some illness, but i'm alright now.

I always thought Michelle Fobes would of been a great First Officer. I liked Kira alot, especially after season one. Ensign Ro would of done well with it, but just think we got Michelle Forbes & Nana Visitor!!

I'd also liked to have seen Ro Laren as First Officer even though the actor not as the role of Kira. That's who Nana Visitor had played likewise Ro would have been an plesant character added to the storyline.

Ro stood out only because she contrasted with the orderliness of the Enterprise-D. On Deep Space Nine she would've faded into the background.

Kira was perfect for DS9.

Well, Otakujo, remember that Ro had an edge to her character and she didn't always follow  Star Fleet rules, she was court marshaled and sent to prison, thing is, according to Berman she would had moved up in rank to become first officer.

I do absolutely agree with that statement. Nana Visitor was perfect for DS9.

I think Ro would've been a great addition to the cast as she was originally considered, but I think that Nana Visitor did a great job and her character Kira was the right fit for the show.

Kira was my favorite DS9 character. She was tough, intelligent, and feminine...which is a mix that Star Trek hasn't really gotten right very often. the Ro Laren character was great...but I think Kira was perfect for DS9.

Kira was a great character as was Ro. The series would simply have been different. Now if if Ro had been included along with Kira....that would have been epic!

I did like Ro in TNG. I felt that she gave the show some flavor. In spite of her rebellious ways, you couldn't help but pull for her.

Adding her to the regular cast of DS9 would have been too tough. As someone else stated, she had already been court marshalled and then she defected to the Maquee. The best she could have gotten in DS9 would have been a guest shot revolving around the Maquee or they could have lost the nose ridges and altered  her appearance offering Forbes a shot as a different character.

But then, that wouldn't have been Ensign Ro.

Either way, Nana Visitor's "Kira Nuryes" was taylor made for Deep Space Nine.

But at the end of the day she was still a Starfleet officer. (Kira as a Bajoran militia officer is not at all connected with Starfleet.)

Whether she is better, worse, or basically the same as Kira is very much dependant on opinion, and I do understand that the choice not to have her was a pragmatic one based on circumstance (Michelle Forbes didn't want to do another Trek series). One can only speculate on how she would have fitted in with the crew (unless you count the relaunch books) because of course she wasn't in DS9 series at all.

And I'm not going to argue with you about Forbes' portrayal of the character; I thought it was very good. However, in the end I am glad for the Kira character -- she has enormous personal development through the series and is a strong heroine. Also it was good to have another Bajoran in a major role as a contrast to Ro.
