Hello all. I know STO has its own forums, but I can't post untill I spend some money and I want to play the game a bit before I invest. Unfortunately this board is my only chance to get my questions answered where forum hunting has failed. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

My first question is: How diluted is my experience going to be with out spending money at this c store of theirs and will I have to anyway once I am a subscriber?

Secondly, how is class/play balanced? If I am a dedicated science ship with most of my points put into science on my ship will I have to practice team work with others or can any one of any class just face roll through missions with little or no knowledge of how to play their class.

Third: how is the community really? Are there a lot of good players to drown out the jerks or is it like finding a needle in a haystack?

Last one I promise: I notice I can't whisper or chat in zone is this a time restraint or a sub restraint? I know I could have gotten that one off the other forums but I just thought of it.

The C-store sells vanity items. None of them are necessary in any way, but they can nice extras to have.

Each class has a different style: cruisers have better hull strength, but are not very maneuverable; escorts are very maneuverable, but not very durable; and science vessels are kind of a mix, relying on abilties that weaken enemy ships as opposed to strengthening yours.

Which class works best is up to the player. None are really 'easy', but of course you get better as you gain experience. And yes, the game is solo-friendly.

There aren't really many 'jerks', just people that are dissatisfied with the current state of the game and make a fuss about it. There are many nice people on the forums.

Silver players can't use the chat until they either play the game for 20 hours, buy Cryptic points, or make a purchase from the C-store.

The Features Matrix should be useful if you want to learn more. If you need anything else, just let me know.

Thank you for the help and the link : )

I may have phrased my second question badly. To put it a bit more accurately can you play a almost entirely support type configuration and still have a roll too play in missions as part of a fleet/team. That's something that my last MMO WoW had in the beginning and then lost when they were trying to make the game more acessable to people were not used to the idea. It really took something out of the game and I would love to see a game that has that in it. Something that really rewards learning the mechanics, stats and how they effect you and bringing you skills to a team.

Yes, support ships/players are useful during PvP and team missions. Healing their shields, shooting down High-Yield Plasma Torpedoes, etc are very useful.
